As much as I would love to say yes, it is not.

Clue: The piece is not Japanese

You are absolutely correct! Poet on a Mountaintop is among the most famous pieces made during the Ming Dynasty, the connection to nature is greatly emphasised here.

The style is something I thought could have come from Michelangelo, so this lead brought me to "The Last Judgment".

    It is indeed!

Michelangelo's style was unique, that's why I picked that specific particular.. it is said that the skin is portraying Michelangelo himself, though it was never confirmed.

The whole Sistine Chapel is probably the greatest fresco work ever made and certainly one of the greatest artworks of the whole human history.

ok so, this is not easy for me

What I could say so far, searching for "portrait of an old woman/lady with a white bonnet" gives way too much results, and none of them resembles this sweet old lady, sadly

Stylistically it's probably from mid to late 19th Century, there's some Impressionism in it, though it's hard to say from a portrait (no landscape).. I can assume it's from an artist from north or east Europe, though I have no clues who that could be.

    Hint time for me

You're right with the dating and geography. I think the style should be called academic art / academicism / academism.

Ah that's a good hint indeed!

By looking at Academic Art and scrolling down few names, I stopped at Estonians, first name being Johann Koler. That happens to be the Ema Portree.

Now, why looking for old women with a bonnet, I happened to stumble upon my mother's in law portrait, below

You're right! It's the portrait of Köler's Mother. He also made one of his father. Here's a nice animation of them:

What the heck are they doing in that animation?

    Next one then

Unless you manage to find this specific image, which would be a lucky shot, I think it will be difficult for you to tell exactly the name of this artwork, but since this is part of a larger series of frescos, all made by the same artist and placed on the same location, I'll be ok with having the name of the place where they are located and of course the name of the author.

hint: it's from the greatest Italian painter of early 14th century and as I said this series of frescoes are all placed on the same location.

    Got it! Well done indeed

this is one of the frescoes that are located on what is know as the Basilica Superiore di Assisi, which in itself is a unique masterpiece (it's two churches one above the other, with very much different styles). The whole Franciscan complex is something stunning to say the least, if you are coming to visit the center of Italy, you cannot miss it. And yes, I've born there.

The posted artwork is being part of the Storie di San Francesco, a total of 28 frescoes made by Giotto (if you don't know him, shame on you! He was one those who revolutionized painting and was known to be able to draw a perfect circle by free hands).

Sadly I can't rep Araval, if anyone can do me the honor I'll return the favor asap. Thanks!
