Hard Drive Problem

A few days ago, my hard drive became very slow. It now takes like triple the time to accomplish tasks like scanning the drive for viruses, defragging, starting M2TW, etc. Is my hard drive dying on me? It's a 200 GB SATA 7200 RPM. Before this happened, I had a problem with my HD locking up on me. I was told that it might have been overheating but now I'm expecting that it's definitely HD related.

You can download a program from the hard drive manufacturer (eg: Seagate, WD, etc) that will tell you if your hard drive is dying.

i'm willing to put my money on it's dying. i had the same thing happen to me a few years ago with a western digital 80GB 7200. i mean the exact same thing. response times starting slowing to damn near a crawl. and then a few days later, boot drive failure. although it was a couple years old at the time and i'm constantly dealing with large psd files.

how old is this drive of yours?

I think the HD is getting close to three years now. I was hoping it would last a little bit longer but **** happens.

yeah. it's time for a new hdd. i hardly ever see one of my own last more than 2 years, much less 3.
