Cowboy Bebop live action adaptation

So last night while contemplating how all media has turned into excrement I stumbled upon this "gem".

My initial reaction was complete disbelief that they actually went through with this. Further baffled by how awful and unpresentable this trailer is.

Now mind you I don't tend to watch these live action adaptations of Japanese anime. Be it a western or a Japanese production. I didn't see the Rurouni Kenshin live action, wish I hadn't seen those 10 minutes of the live action Bleach TV series, didn't watch Ghost in the Shell, and won't bother to watch this crap. Though I did lmao at Netflix's Death Note adaptation.

But if you are here you probably want to know what I think about this.
-CGI looks cheap
-looks like some stupid Marvel crap
-why did Netflix do this? It should have been a movie starring Keanu Reeves (but with effort)
-why did they cast the dude from Harold and Kumar? SPIKE SPIEGEL is obviously not Asian. Most of the characters are not even supposed to be Asian as the creator's influence was American. Furthermore this guy doesn't seem like he fits in the role at all. Anyway only Keanu Reeves could pull off some of the action in that series... oh wait this is going to be phoned in with the action department as well.
-why did they get all of the cast wrong? An example different from Spike... Faye is the only character that should have been Asian.
-why was this a thing? Nostalgia? I could and should just watch the anime instead.
-where is Keanu Reeves? In every way he is practically the best actor to portray the character of Spike

One thing I don't get is why they insist to use Japanese actors; with all the due respect, I mean you create your manga and anime with characters that resembles western dudes and then ruin the atmosphere in movies by using Japanese actors who, very often, do not even remotely resembles the manga/anime counterparts.

It does not make sense to me at all, simply breaks the appeal to me

The odd thing is that Faye Valentine isn't Asian. Which is a pretty big departure considering she is stated to be from Hong Kong. Unless they retconned this... but why?

One thing that really bothered me from the trailer is that Annie was supposed to be a fat white woman. Like a really husky smoker who looked kind of rough around the edges. Now she is just a generic personality.

Holy this is so bad that I can't cope.

It was so bad that it got cancelled at the end of season 1. They completely rewrote the series. Nothing is the same. Not the characters or their back stories, not character motivations, not the actual events. Case in point, Julia is a power hungry villain who wants to help Vicious kill Spike.

Even though Jet is a Black guy now they literally wrote that he was a dead beat dad who abandoned his family. Which is unintentionally racist... and hilarious.

I guess this is not really a matter of incompetence, but more about what the authors have been asked for... as I said I never had much hope on this product, the more because Nefflix definitely has some good content, but even more low quality stuff. I've read, though, that "fans" are trying to save this series after it has been cancelled.. I doubt it will happen.

Because they see this kinda stuff as a cash grab. They dont really care or respect the source material. in this case Anime. Do you remember what they did to the live action Death Note?

Same thing. They should leave this things alone, they would be better off in putting the original Anime in their grid.

I didn't even know this was based off anything. As such, my verdict is that the story line and the execution were about as good as the setting allows. Perhaps making it live action made the poor world building premises stand out more.

Yes this is extremely bad. However I don't see why we need live action adaptations of cartoons. Just watch the cartoon.

When I heard that they wanted to make Cowboy Bebop into a live action adaptation it just made me cringe. For one because it would obviously be low budget and bad. Second they can't replicate the effects of the cartoon. Third... just watch the cartoon. I am glad it is a cartoon and would rather watch that than live action.

There have been some good live action adaptations. There are also many more bad ones. But I was never interested in live action, and I don't get why we need these things in live action when the animated one is just as good. No wait... actually the animated one is better.

As for the parody. Yeah it feels like a parody and the people who made this obviously did not respect the source material. For a lot of these guys it was just a job. But they seem to just disrespect the source material and had to write in "corrections". Not just for political correctness. But they also changed elements of the story because they thought it would work better.

I found the show I was referring to. I remember it being in my recommendations for like a day when it came out before they cancelled it last year. Jupiter's Legacy.

The costuming looked ing absurd.
