Does heavy artillery ships exist ?

Hi,

Maybe I'm asking some stupîd question but I'm always seing the possibility to recruit and play light artillery quinqueremes. As far as I went in the game I've never seen the tech and the possibility to recruit heavy artillery ships. Does they even exist in the game and if yes how do I recruit them ?

AFAIK, there is no "heavy artillery" ships. The only ships with artillery are penteres/quinqueremes. Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians and some Persian factions get access to them, barbarians don't even get ramming ships (with some exceptions, a few factions get triremes and raiding trihemiolias).

Romans get to upgrade their artillery quinqueremes after the Marian event, but there is no difference in the ballistas - neither stat-wise, nor functionally. In fact, IMO, the change in the other stats make them slightly worse.
