    Default Unit banners gone white - Please help

    When I converted my mod form v. 1.2 to 1.5, I must have made an error, as all my unit banners have gone white.

    The banners are still in the models/textures folder, so I must have mislaid a file. Which file is it?

    P.S. Is there a file I can modify allowing me to use menu button targas with different file names?

    I noticed that in your screenies. The same thing happened to me when I ran RTW through the the BI exe. I didn't look into solving it at the time, I just disabled the banners altogether. I'll see what I can find out in regards to this problem.

    Descr_banners should be the file youīre looking for. At least thatīs the file you have to edit when you want to use a mod folder and include new banners.

    I tred to edit descr_banners, but I got this error message;

    What precisely did you do?

    Basically, descr_banners doesnīt work any different from Descr_models_battle, that is it points the game to the .cas and texture for the banners for the different factions, so if youīre savy with dmb, handling descr_banners shouldnīt be much of a problem...

    What I did was pasted the descr_banners from my RTW 1.5 clean install in there, then changed the necessary textures.

    I'm perfectly DMB savvy, but this is confurzling me no end! Help?!?!?!?

    A new development!

    The message above said to 'add cmd_line' several things, so I added them to my WHTW shortcut, and lo and behold, working banners!

    No idea why it worked, though...

    Any explanations?

    Have you got past the vertex buffer error message yet? I think that usually shows up due to simple coding errors so it shouldn't be too hard to rectify. As for the white banners, the problem seems to have cleared up on the latest build of my mod so I can't experiment with it and help you out there. You could try moving the banners to a new folder and changing the route in descr_banners to that new folder. It's worth a shot.

    One question I forgot to ask, the answer of which could go to great lenghts regarding all kinds of missing textures: Do you use an overwrite or a mod folder?
    Really, that should have been my first question to ask, stupid me.

    I'm not quite sure what you mean. Could you explain please, I'm feeling rather ill and I'm thinking at about 1.2% capacity.

    You know about the modswitch feature of RTW, donīt you? If not then my question is already answered...
    But if you know about it, do you use it, or not? Because if you use it thereīs some extra editing necessary, namely redirecting paths in dmb and so on, some of which might be forgotten, so that causes trouble.

    So you donīt use it.

    In short, it allows you to make some modifications to the game without overwriting the vanilla files. What is especially nice about it is the fact that the mod folder only needs to contain what you actually changed (apart from a complete "world" folder in the data subfolder, I think). Everything else is drawn from the original, vanilla installation.

    A modswitch version goes into its own folder in the RTW installation folder and has the same structure (data, prefrences, etc.). To start a game via a mod folder, you need to create a shortcut to the RTW exe and add the following to the command line: "-mod:*yourmodname*", in your case this would be probably WarhammerTW or something like it. Note that the name in the command line has to e the one of the mod folder.
    That way itīs possible to have one copy of RTW installed with a couple of mods, which is extremely space-saving (considering that RTW weighs about 2 GB, almost the double with BI installed).
    In order to get it to work, however, there must be some changes done in the descr_model_battle, and some other files, namely they need to be pointed to the mod folder, and this is where problems arise most easily, when you forget to make some changes.

    If you want an example, look at Chivalry, The Fourth Age (though thatīs for BI, but the principle is basically the same) or Napoleonic. These come to mind since I have them all installed myself, I suppose there are more examples.

    Ok, but considering I'm not using it, does anyone know why the banners work when I use the above command lines but not otherwise?

    Every time I try and do a battle, I get a variation on the above error messages! Please, please help, before I go insane.

    What did I do to deserve this?

    I can only guess, but the word "vertex" seems to hint at the .cas models. But what precisely, I have no idea at all.
    I believe the only thing you did was converting the Warhammer 1.2 demo to 1.5, and added a few textures and units, right? You didnīt edit any .cas files, be they unit models or banners or whatever?

    No, I can't edit cas files since I don't have 3ds.

    Rstoner reckons it's to do with a numerical error, probably in DMB.

    So I'm checking my file against the 'clean' RTW 1.5 version.

    Hopefully the error will be found and destroyed...
