Today I would like to introduce my fellow TWCers to Lifthrasir's artwork for the 501st awards. He created these images over a series of weeks, slowly prototyping new ideas and adjusting the models regularly, along with the textures. It was an absolutely fantastic job and he truly never got the credit he deserved for such a work of art.
Originally I had solely worked with Lifth to put together an image that would immediately evoke the sense that the modder was on their way one day in the future to Opifex or continuing work on their Opifex; for example some very significant and remarkable acts occur after someone achieves Opifex, with Tone releasing his RS2 environmental work to the modding community or Gigantus continuing to contribute.
Going back to the artwork, I'm not sure what happened but there was a miscommunication it seems and his original work was never properly submitted to the competition. The original images we worked out together looked like this, with a large image for ease of assessment and a smaller for better scale;
501st Legio Bronze Award
501st Legio Silver Award
501st Legio Gold Award
Modding Service Award
(original gold but likely going to be repurposed for a new Opifex)
And finally Opifex (purely here for demonstration purposes)
Personally I feel like the imagery makes things a lot clearer and also visually tells a story of progression to Opifex or about continued contributions of an Opifex to the community.
With respect to Akar's proposed amendment, I would like to present my own take on the wording; I do agree with Akar to some extent that there should be an update. However, I strongly disagree with the exclusion of a "remarkable act which benefits the TWC modding community". One of the key reasons this was included was that very same RS2 environment example; that simple act got myself, ahowl88, and Granto (probably more than just us), on the modding warpath trying to adopt those environments to other mods.
So a remarkable act like that should be awarded through the Legio 501st awards in my humble opinion, rather than being relegated to the Modding Service Award which was meant to be primarily for continuous service in the workshop or releasing a second hosted mod here on TWC; Opifex after all would be the first award they'd be eligible for. A simple remarkable act really doesn't cut it in my book.
- Legio 501st Modder Award (Gold) - Awarded by the Curia for three or more of the following: creating a detailed and original tutorial containing relevant media (screenshots, video, code snippets), releasing a minor mod involving at minimum a single modding section (units, scripting, mapping, animations, sounds, media) of work estimated to have taken more than than 24 hours or a remarkable act which benefits the TWC modding community. Note, beta-testing does not qualify for the gold award.
- Legio 501st Modder Award (Silver) - Awarded by the Curia for two or more of the following: creating a detailed and original tutorial containing relevant media (screenshots, video, code snippets), releasing a minor mod involving at minimum a single modding section (units, scripting, mapping, animations, sounds, media, beta-testing) of work estimated to have taken more than 12 hours or a remarkable act which benefits the modding community.
- Legio 501st Modder Award (Bronze) - Awarded by the Curia for one or more of the following: creating a detailed and original tutorial containing relevant media (screenshots, video, code snippets), releasing a minor mod involving at minimum a single modding section (units, scripting, mapping, animations, sounds, media, beta-testing) of work estimated to have taken more than 6 hours or a remarkable act which benefits the modding community.
With all of this in mind, I hope that you all agree that Lifthrasir's work should replace the current set of images due to the extremely high quality and artistic storytelling and my proposed clarification to the awards.
