Thread: How to edit the BIN text files?

Default How to edit the BIN text files?

For some reason that escapes my understanding, some MTW2 text files are not easily edittable as most. They can't be visualised with normal Notepad and not even with Notepad++ as far as I could check. The programs suggested online haven't worked so far either.

I know there is supposed to be a converter in the tools folder, but I don't see any at all, just the unpackers.

BinEditor and .txt files for the special 4. I believe bare geomod also has .txt versions of all the text files, or at least it should.

Nobody opens and edits .bin files. All of them, except for the aforementioned special 4 (battle, tooltips, shared, strat), will be regenerated when you edit their corresponding .txt files (you may need to delete the .bim files for the game to rebuild).

Not as practical as I would like, but worked as intended.

Again thank you very much for solving all of my problems lol, even the stupid ones.

Some of the questions you've asked are quite interesting and original and I've even subscribed to the threads because they generated good discussion. On the other hand, some of these can probably be answered with a Google search.

    I usually search:

    Code:
    site:twcenter.net medieval 2 "specific keywords"
If TWC doesn't have anything, you're probably out of luck. The other sites are mostly forums for players or having modding communities that went inactive ages ago.

Yup, the BinEditor can't handle the special 4 files either. The BinEditor comes handy for formatting the TXT and BIN filesintially - after that I prefer to edit the TXT files directly.

Note: do not delete the BIN files for the special 4 if you are on Steam - they are required to generate new ones from updated TXT files.
