If you are wondering why the Japanese haven't responded to you, Cookie, there are probably one or two reasons for that.

Yes, but the Americans won't ever give an inch to that proposition.

Didn’t Islam invent the metric system? Let’s ask CS.

When I lived in the States, I quickly grew quite comfortable with any measures of length or distance (inches, feet, miles, hours) and weight or volume (ounces, pounds, fluid ounces, gallons). But since the climate was so different, I never came to understand the correspondence between Fahrenheit and Celsius. I can imagine what 90 Fahrenheit feels like in the humid continental US weather, but I still cannot give an accurate figure for that in Celsius.

I agree that the metric system is superior in some ways, but in the same time, I feel that many of the US measurements make more intuitive sense. An inch or a foot are really wieldy measurements for a human being describing the size of everyday objects in comparison to the really minuscule centimeter and the quite large meter.

The only part of the metric system I hate and don't understand is Celsius. I am completely unable to convert f>c or c>f in my head so I fear and distrust Celsius instinctively. It is a stupid and flawed measurement.

It reminds me of the old classic phrase: "Fahrenheit is designed around the way a human feels, Celsius is designed around how water feels."

Thank you Akar. It means so much to me that someone else fesses up to their frustration about these unlinear measurements. I thought that 90 F would be about 27 C, but it turns out to be 32,2 C. While we are at it, 100 C is 212 F, and 0 C is equal to 32 F. But still -40 C is -40 F. That is too much monkey business for a decendant of monkeys to be involved in.

Im pretty sure Americans will never quit their measurement scales, simply because they give bigger numbers in all, temperature, length, weight.

I very recently had to give a friend a not so friendly smack down for not knowing how many liters were in a cubic decimeter.

The Fahrenheit scale I'm also a fan of. 0°F is the freezing temperature of a brine solution no one knows the exact composition of. 100°F is the temperature Fahrenheit measured in his bum when he felt particularly hot.
Now if that isn't intuitive I don't know what is.
