Default Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: The Kingdom of Bohemia

    The Kingdom of Bohemia

In the next version we have decided to replace the Shadow Hungary faction with the Kingdom of Bohemia. The reasons are many including the fact that AI Hungary could not handle the emergence of Shadow Hungary and it led to the faction being handicapped.

On the other side, if the player is using Hungary they find it very easy to wipe out Shadow Hungary. As such, we believe that it is better to use that faction slot for a playable faction and replace Shadow Hungary with various scripted and historical rebellions in Hungary.

Bohemia will have a host of interesting scripts including the choice between staying Catholic or converting to Hussitism which will be a new religion (currently replacing Avignon Catholicism). If the player chooses the Hussites all sorts of hussite units, events and heroes will become available.

Is it possible to use war wagons in circular formation, as it is available for horse archer units?

The war wagons are like artillery, they do not move. But you can place them in a circle if you want. They are already in the mod as mercs for austria, hungary so you can play around with them.

Great work and lot of very good historical research, there is never enough mods featuring Kingdoms of Bohemia, and definitely not the hussites... Though I have some issues with my country technicaly being a shadow faction of Hungary .

Well it's not really a shadow faction of hungary. The faction is fully playable, it just uses the free faction slot left after shadow hungary was removed. Just like bavaria uses the free faction slot from shadow bulgaria.

Unrelated to Bohemia itself, but since I see that you're going down a path of removing the "shadow" factions one by one I have to ask:
Will you be removing shadow Serbia in the future?
If you can model the Hungarian revolts via events and the rebel faction then why can't you do the same for Serbia and instead have an extra faction on the map?
I'm not even sure what faction it'd be but I'm sure a completely new faction would be preferable to just a carbon copy of Serbia with a new color (even if the new faction is, say, a copy-paste Italian faction).

The break-up of the Serbian and Bulgarian 'empires' into separate Despotates was important in the Ottoman advance, no strong central power to resist...despite the best efforts of local rulers.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing Bohemia

Here is one unpopular opinion- remove Croatia as a faction.
Historically it was de facto incorporated in the Kingdom of Hungary, and apart from one rebellion that didin't even happen it was historicaly irrelevant. We have croatian regions, the units and nobles to represent the people but we don't need the faction just because it doesn't add anything significant to the game. If you remove Shadow Hungary then the biggest faction in the game suddenly feel even more OP. You say that rebelions will be coded but then it comes the question how playing Hungary which was elective monarchy with a lot of unruly magnates wont feel just like playing absolute monarchy. Yes there will be grey rebels here and there but it won't feel immersive for the player. And what about Shadow Serbia? Even now it is weak and get's rekt quickly so does it even matter? If you take out Shadow Hungary just remove Shadow Serbia and add Lithuania which could become Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth which too had way more power, influence and action the the mod area and timeframe than Croatia.
To conclude- remove Shadow Serbia or Croatia for Lithuania/Poland-Lithuania.

Actually Hungary is not very OP due to the fact that AI can't handle big factions. The bigger a faction is the weaker its AI will be. Which is why we got rid of Shadow Hungary as the Hungarian AI can't handle it. We actually got rid of all rebellions that happen in AI controlled factions, now rebellions only happen for Human controlled factions. Instead, there will be scripted rebellions for the Hungarian player which will be a lot more powerful and more annoying than the Shadow Hungary. They won't be some weak weak grey rebels, they will be fully fledged rebel armies attacking and besieging cities. For example, the Hussite rebels were so powerful that they completely crippled AI hungary and we had to actually remove them if Hungary is AI controlled.

Shadow Serbia is next on the chopping block probably. But for the moment we don't have time to create another faction. For Bohemia we already had the units created so that was a lot easier.

We won't be removing Croatia as we like the variety and we don't want to remove factions for which we already did work creating. Generally, our policy is only to remove non playable factions.

No, I think Croatia should definitely should stay, if anything add count or ban of Slavonia - not in terms of ethnicity but rather dynastically. Though only Hermann count of Cili (if I'm not mistaken and I think so) who had signicance?

    Or perhaps Despotate of Vdin?

Sure, as soon as i finish the cities and castles. Though there is no last level since we don't use them in Tsardoms.
