To make it playable and improved for a more modern audience, which has an overwhelming market share in 10. Unfortunate choice imo, but aside from the dwindling numbers of 7 users it really doesn't make an impact.

Also, given the fact that RTW original is being offered as a bundle, for those who have Windows 7 you can play RTW original as a compensation of sorts.

I would say that is a bad marketing from CA, because who wants to buy RTW-R at the same time RTW is bundled with it and have played RTW for years on older Windows versions than Windows 10.

Who would do that? Probably no one, I suppose.

Well, they pulled the original as a stand alone download, so if you want to play the original RTW you simply have to buy the bundled, remastered version. Windows7 is past 'end of life' so eventually users will switch over to 10 unless they want to risk exposing themselves to security issues. And then they can switch to RTW-R as well.

Well, I guess I can use WIndows 7 to:

    play Rome Total War II

play Warhammer - all current versions

    play Medieval Total War 2

    play Shogun II

    serf TWC

    make snarky comments here -

and no its really not the security risk the everyone is/aremaking it out to be.

Not me that is for sure, in fact I haven't played R2TW since the day I remove it from my computer after I discovered another annoying thing (the player cannot change the amount of money during diplomacy without using a mod).

Fun fact, you get more control if you flip the diplomacy option (ie instead of give, demand then swap it over). I remember doing this and getting 100 florin increments. Still a bit silly of course.

They just announced that patch 2.0.4 is going to be the final patch for the game and that they're going to provide minor support for a limited time from now on. This means that the broken UI is here to stay, the broken battlefield is here to stay and the broken agents are here to stay.

Absolutely dismal performance and I hope they do not "remaster" Medieval II in the same manner.
