Thread: Some simple questions about the Taskashila

Default Some simple questions about the Taskashila

I have been thinking about playing my next campaign as Taskashila. Easter holidays coming up.

    Some questions:

    1. Where can I read more on their history? There seems to be virtually no information available.

    2. For roleplaying purposes, I'd like to to know what kind of government they were. Based on the in-game descriptions, I'd guess a hereditary monarchy, not any kind of republic or elective monarchy. Still, a definitive statement would be appreciated.

    3. Anything in particular to keep in mind when playing this faction?

    4. If you have played a campaign as this faction, did you like it? Why or why not?

It's not a faction that I played seriously. But, as primary source, you have : Herodotos (The Histories, III), some parts (when he fights in India) of Alexander the Great history, Strabon (Geography, XV, 1)

A french article about greek sources : https://www.persee.fr/doc/dha_2108-1...0_sup_3_1_3330

The preview is a good start. There is a bibliography at the bottom too!

I did a faction review for Taksashila at https://www.twcenter.net/forums/show...-needed)/page4 . Review is at the middle of the page. Some supplementary notes are:

The Taksashilan Military Reforms might be broken. As a result you may never be able to access upper levels of Indo Greek Guilds, or the Indian Lancers unit.

    Thanks for the link.

Is it confirmed that the reform system is broken?

Would you recommend against playing the Taksashila because of it?

I suspect it's broken... but even without achieving the second Military Reform Taksashila has plenty access to features. With the new foreign military colonization recruitment Taksashila can recruit indogreek hoplites, medium infantry, and cavalry (and even baktrian medium cavalry) from India proper. Taksashila still has a functioning Independence Reform, and plenty of foes to fight. It's just that without the second Military Reform, you can't recruit Indian Lancers (which frankly are quite underwhelming) nor build the second and third levels of indogreek guilds, which allow indogreek recruitment in Baktria and India
