Default Accurate maps of Syria in 2014?

    Dear Fellow posters,

I have had a legal acquaintance who wishes to present maps of the situation in Syria in 2014 as part of a court case.

Does anyone know of sources for maps which might be present in a forensic context? I understand this may not be possible given the unsettled conditions in that country and Australia's relationships (we are allied to the US and very friendly with Israel).

I am guessing military analytic maps are probably restricted?

Apologies if this is the wrong fora and mods relocate freely as needed.

Live Universal Awareness Maps have both live and historic maps for the Syrian conflict. I think you have to pay for the historic maps older than 4 years (in the time tab). https://syria.liveuamap.com/

Also, the Wikipedia map has a history that goes all the way back. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php...00#filehistory

Both are compiled by volunteers using open source materials - including potentially biased witness and social media accounts, so come with all the expected caveats. If you google enough, there are a number of other open source maps around, but these two are the most updated, and align fairly well with each other in what is very much a fog of war environment.

The types of map I think you're after - of a forensic quality and from an official source (e.g. https://mapshare.vic.gov.au/vicplan/), probably don't exist in away that is useful to your friend without going through government departments (unlikely to be useful if it's from Syria, and unlikely to be any more legitimately accurate if from an adversarial country). Hopefully I'm wrong though.
