Dumb question but does Troy have a historical campaign?

Yes it does! The historical mode was added for free in an update, and removes the various special units inspired by myth from the game, as well as changing the generals from single-entity units to regular general units with (upgradable) bodyguards. You'll end up with a game that is a lot closer to Shogun 2 or 3K's records mode in terms of gameplay: roughly symmetrical factions on a regional map.
