    Default My Stuff

Days go by quick and i still dont have a full concept, but im doing something for the Shogun 2 Anniversary Competition.

Not sure which direction it will take, but i have like a base idea of this samurai/shogun:

Its just like a sketch with base coloring for now, and theres much work to be done with the details, also not sure what background im gonna go for.
Honestly not sure what style i want to go for in the end just yet, will have to work this out.

Looking good! How much detail do you intend to put into it?

I want to fix the "ear" pieces a bit and those parts covering the armpits, and under the neck, and then probably it will be mostly be like this version, maybe some shading and highlights adjustment a bit.

Maybe make the background first and then do shading and highlighting?

Yeah i know what you mean. I dont think im gonna do much in terms of the background, i will try to keep it simple. I already fixed most of the stuff i wanted, but this week i wont be working on it too much cause ive got a lot of other stuff to do. I will get back to this before the end of the month.

I was at work earlier, so i havent posted the current version, so this is the current stage:

Im still gonna play around with the highlights and possibly color corrections. I think it mostly looks the way i wanted.

Yeh i made a pencil drawing then inked it and the rest of the process is here. Im no expert on japanese armor tho so i was using reference pics to draw that, mostly.

Make a search on google with samurai artstation. You'll get plenty pics and 3D models for reference

Yeah i looked for some examples like that, but i mostly used one of them to focus on.

Also, this picture is not meant to be a photorealistic style, and i cant really devote this all that much time so im probably not gonna polish all details enough, i dont know. For now, i mean actually last evening, i added something like a simple background and a bit of color adjustment, to see how it looks, and i think i like the dark tones. Im gonna probably try to work on the details or lights and shadows a bit during the weekend.

    This is first mockup:

I'd like the colours less muted.

There is still one week to figure this out, so that was the first mockup of the banner but definately not the final version. I agree that the reds are a bit dull, theres quite a bit that could be improved overall. Thanks for your input mate, i appreciate. Anybody else wants to point out something different maybe?

Looks great, my only issue is with the background. The sort of "painted over" or whatever effect is coming off more as low resolution than what is intended, I think.

I'd say make the blacks darker and it's nice.

@Akar, yeah i guess that effect is a bit distracting, thanks.

@Araval, i specifically dont want it to be jet black so thats just my artistic choice i would say

I also thinking about trying a vertical arrangement, but i dont think i have enough time now for that.

This will probably be the final version, i think the bigger one but i made the small one just to see how it looks in comparison.

    full size 1000x500

    small 500x250

That's awesome, well done man. Background looks way better now. I also like the texturing on the words you've done.

You have beautiful fingers, Vlad, I've always said so.
