    Default Additional playable factions Morning Sun

    According to this thread it is now possible to make more factions playable.

    As such I am creating a thread regarding which factions people would want to be playable. I plan to start with 12 additional factions to see how this works. Since it's not possible at the moment to have the factions on multiple lines I can't make all of them playable because it would be impossible to click on their icons. Here is what 46 factions looks like.

    The current 5 factions on this list are as follows:
    • Chosokabe
    • Mori
    • Oda
    • Otomo
    • Uesugi


    Takeda cannot be included as they had ceased to exist at this time.

    The following 8 Japanese factions are possible as they have multiple regions:
    • Ashina
    • Kanbe
    • Kawajiri
    • Kobayakawa
    • Masuda
    • Ryuzoji
    • Sogo
    • Ukita


    Non-Japanese factions include the Tusi in west and south China and the Jurchen tribes above Korea.

    I have the following 8 Muslim factions in western China so I could make one of them playable.

    Yeah, please don't go with 46 factions. From that image above, I would say aiming for 30-35 factions is a good target.

    My only suggestion is to enable new factions if they add some variety in the gameplay. Like, they start in an area with few other playable factions or they have a different religion (muslims) or they have some other interesting mechanic. For example, one of the Jurchen tribes above Korea could present an alternative starting point.


    I would also be more interested to see China becoming more of an Empire than a huge state that the AI has trouble defending, even from rebels. I.e. if possible, take some of the regions of China and turn them to vassal factions of China, with scripted very good relations with China and trade deals etc. It would also make playing China easier, I think.
    Frankly, when I tried to play China (or Korea) I was immediately overwhelmed since you start with a bazillion areas out of the kazoo.

    I guess I could use factions that aren't too close to playable regions. Though most of the nomadic factions are generic because I never expected them to be playable. It would be helpful to know whether any of them played an important role.

    The problem with turning China into multiple factions is that the player would have to engage in multiple civil wars if they wanted to be able to recruit units in more than their starting regions.

    Not if the player's land is not continuous. What I mean is that there could be 'colonies' where Imperial administration was stronger. I.e. you have 20 settlements, 10-12 together around the capital and a couple of detached regions with 3-4 settlements similar to the provinces of R2TW.

    Im not sure where to put this so ill ask it Here,is there any opinion on looking to add places like okinawa, fukuyma island, and taiwan?

    I was thinking (if it were accurate) perhaps a Chinese warlord state with one or two provinces. Something that has all the cool unique stuff the Ming have, but isn't as big or in as bad of a situation as them. Ive been wanting to play a nation on the mainland, but I'm not too much a fan of really large starts or the nomads.
