    Novus Mundus


    ConceptThe mod idea is based on alternate history. Like:
    What if the Romans made it to America?


    It's an idea we were tossing around in the German Infracta team while working on the 1648 mod. Unfortunately most of the team returned to real life shortly after 1648 was released, leaving the undertaking in hiatus. We did get a teaser trailer out though:



    Basic set upThe mod makes full use of the 'americas' campaign's assets. To avoid hassle with providing 'unedited original content' and also to reduce the download size drastically the mod first makes a back up copy of the 'americas' directory and then cleans it up for mod use before installing mod files.
    The map used for the mod is from my collection.


    General ideas While the 'native' factions will be all playable the focus of the mod will be exclusively on the Romans. They will eventually be set up as playable horde on an unexplored map, initially guided along by script. There will be no horses\cavalry and a limited ability for the Romans to raise 'Roman' units. Recruitment based on relations with neighboring factions (like in the original campaign) will be a feature as well as time and event dependent increase in abilities to progress in building and recruiting.
    Custom mission scripting for individual factions like in Rise of three Kingdoms is planned at a later stage as this requires a final stage map and rooster. At that stage the native factions will also receive more attention to make them more feasible as playable factions.

    Installation While in theory relatively simple here the step by step instructions:

    1. Preparation - needs to be done only once!
    - download and run Novus Mundus Prep, follow on screen instructions
    2. Mod installation
    - download and install the latest mod version and patches\fixes, follow on screen instructions

    Keep in mind that this is so far a very basic beta version, rather a 'proof of concept' only.
    Do not expect a playable mod, complaints in that regard will be simply ignored or deleted.

    This is a facinating premise! I will be watching Novus Mundus closely!

    This lad not only has 10 billion awards in his user bit and countless mods including multiple hosted ones, he's still off making entirely new campaigns on the eve of the year 2022. Nobody can surpass the Gig.

    Great News!

    Looks like I am going to get permission to use Romans assets from the EBII team. This will go a long way to make the mod immersive. Certainly an incentive to really get going on this.

    What are some of the other factions that will be in this mod? Is it just in North America or is it everything in the northern hemisphere?

    So far it's the standard native factions from the Americas campaign plus Romans - see the screenshot in the opening post. I might expand by one or two Indian tribes and may be one or two Aztec\Inca tribes.
