Default How to you optimize an Windows vista comp?

How to you optimize an Windows vista computer with these stats:

    RAM:2047 MB
    System type: 32bit operating system

    Base score: 4.2
    Subscores
    Processor 4.2
    Memory(ram) 5.0
    Graphics 5.9
    Gaming Graphics 4.9
Primary hard disk (disk data transfer rate) 5.3

I'm still struggelin' with getting the "real" info so help there would be apreciated

For FPS in Medieval 2 total war?

EDIT: I'm experiencing the same roughly the same fps for low and high ghrapic settings (10-17fps)
And its roughly that with around 2500-5000 men on the battlefield.

i wouldn't use vista for gaming it hasn't been optimised and people get worse performance on vista than xp. If you have the ability to I would swap back to XP and wait a few months before considering using vista.

Well what if you were running on plainly Vista and just being patient and running on medium settings? I would like to know of any neat ways to optimise the system such as shutting of useless processes etc. I have 4.2 the same 4.2-cpu, 4.5-mem, 4.2-aero, 4.5-gfx, 5.4-hdd.
