After a few years' break I would like to play RTW/BI and especially some mods again. But the problems with Win 10 freak me out... I have the Gold disk version and I used to play without major problems with a Win 7 computer using two bats that started and stopped the secdrv.sys before and after playing. As far as I understand, that method doesn't work any more with Win 10.
I'm now between trying to get the disk version to work or to (possibly ???) save some trouble and going for a Steam version, although I don't particularly like that idea either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Earlier I used mostly mods that did not have any special installation/setup programs. Instead, I had a "clean" copy of rtw/bi of which I made a new clean copy to be used with each mod. It required some disk space but worked fine. How does this all work with Steam? Can I similarly use several copies of the program or does it work somehow differently? Will Steam somehow register the mods I'm using? If I run Steam on another computer, will the mods be available there?
And does it make any difference if I buy a new version from Steam or try to register my license code from the disk version with Steam?
And finally, is there a good tutorial on these things somewhere? I tried to find one, but no luck.
