    Default Steam problems

I tried finding an answer to my problem, but I couldn't find one in the steam support, so I figured, maybe one of you would help me out.

I have steam installed to the F: drive.

All my games are on the F: drive. (C:/ is preserved for windows only)

I bought Dark Messiah and I installed it to the F: Drive.

The game had to be activated with the CD key so I did, and Steam wants me to download the game, even though it is installed already from the DVD.

I can't even install the patches for this game, because steam keeps saying that my game is not installed and I have to download it, and it will take me 3hrs 50 min with my connection.

I don't want to download the entire while it is installed already, I mean WTF?

I cannot find an option to direct the Steam to my game somehow, to show It, that my game is installed and I have already finished it once, I just need those patches, because the game has a lot of CTDs without patches.

    Anyone can help?

Also, It's the same deal with all my steam-account games, half life, red orchestra etc. I don't understand, they show up as "not installed".
    Thanks ahead.

As far as I remember, there was an "offline mode" for Steam installation to enable people with a fast connection at work to be able to download stuff and then take it home to install but I've not used it personally, so I'm not sure if that might help you out.

However, you could always try the Patches Scrolls, which is one of the best independent resources on the net for game updates.
Here is the 1.2 version of the Dark Messiah patch, hope it helps you.

thanks Aedile Rich, i downloaded the necessary patches.

I'm still confused, why Steam doesn't sense the games installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam again, but no change.

    No probs, glad to help.

Well, all I can think of is to make sure that Steam is installed to the parent directory of your games. I got the clue from this entry on moving a Steam installation. It states that Steam must all be kept together and I'm wondering if this is the root of your issue.
