    Default Fixing DirectShow

My DirectX as of late has been giving me a permanent headache.

I came to the conclusion that my DirectX, or more specifically DirectShow has been causing all my computer gaming problems.

I've attempted to fix it in several different ways, coming down to a full wipe.

    No avail.

If a format didn't do the trick, then what can be the problem? I've made absolutely no system changes, and it all of a sudden one day becomes a persistent problem.

I've narrowed down the Directshow files:
    amstream.dll
    mciqtz32.dll
    qasf.dll
    qcap.dll
    qdv.dll
    qdvd.dll
    qedit.dll
    qedwipes.dll
    quartz.dll

I've went to the Windows update page and downloaded the most recent redistribution of DirectX to pull out those specific files, since there is no force reinstall option (trust me, I've done my homework) nor has other attempts to reinstall worked.

I finally found where these files belong, and overwritten the old/non-existent files.

The only file I couldn't overwrite was quartz.dll which I will attempt to do so in safe mode after I finish writing this post.

I've searched online for DirectShow fixes as well as other filter packages in hopes that it would correct my problem, but after trying numerous packages, still, no avail.

If any of you computer experts out there can help me on this one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

This is a tough one to debug but I'll lay money to fluff that it's a codec issue.

For a couple of utilities that might help you out, try DXMan and CoDec Detective.

Downloaded Codec Detective provided in your link.

    Following problems listed:

    Audio Codecs:
    Mpeg Layer-3 Decoder

    Video Codecs:
    Microsoft Mpeg-4 Video Decompressor
    Windows Media Video Decoder
    Windows Media Video Decoder

And yes, Windows Media Video Decoder is listed twice on purpose because thats how it showed up.

When I clicked on each problem I got the message:
"The Driver file for this codec was not found. This probably means the codec was not uninstalled properly"

    Still dumbfounded though...
