That CFG entry most likely reverted (manual entries in the main CFG get reversed). Suggest to use a mod set up like my Bare Geomod to edit files in that dedicated directory. Use the provided desktop shortcut to test your work.

The symbols for the campaign are not the ones in folders 24 and 48. What you need to do is to go into data->UI and there are culture groups folders (eg. northern_european) where you have stratpage.tga files with the symbols that are displayed in the campaign scrolls.

48 are the symbols in the faction selection screen and 24 are the symbols during the AI turn if memory serves.

Transfer your edited symbols into the BG mod directory (same path\folder).
Start BG with the provided desktop shortcut

The game will use the 'old' symbols if there are no valid 'new' ones. Which means you either put your new symbols into the wrong directory or they have the wrong format.

Upload your symbols for me to have a look at.

Right, so they are not the symbols for the campaign menus? Cause thats what i understood this question was about. I understand it means like the diplomacy scroll in the campaign for example.

The full path would be data\menu\symbols\fe_buttons_24 and fe_buttons_48

I had no problems when adding your files into those directories:

The campaign menu symbols are on the two interface tga files of the respective cultures as you correctly explained - what gave these away was the mentioning of 24, 48.

The symbols for diplomacy and elsewhere in the campaign are located in the interface files as Vladyvik explained - they are NOT connected to the files you uploaded.

Here is the path and the names of the files you need to edit those symbols on:

    data\ui\southern_european\interface - shared_page01.tga and strat_page02.tga
    data\ui\middle_eastern\interface - only the shared_page01.tga file

    Other symbols to be edited:
data\menu\symbols\fe_buttons_80 - the symbol that appears in the custom battle faction selection screen (bottom) when a faction is selected
data\ui\faction_symbol - the faction button in the battle UI, bottom right. Highlights friend (blue) and foe (red) when clicked.

    Optional:
data\menu\symbols\fe_faction_units - picture of top unit of faction

The above is described in my tutorial 'Adding a new faction'
