    Default the sneaky conquest

Do you allways get the despicable, unthrustworthy etc.. trait even tough you don't start the wars, or never betrayed an ally?

I found a way of conquest, that allows you to keep the reliable trait and as a bonus, makes it easy to pacify the conquered territories easy, and, you don't have to be at war with anyone!

this might have been mentioned before (but it's such a big forum) and it's impossible that I'm the only one doing this or knowing this, but for those who hadn't thought of this.

agents! Agents are wonderfull, spies cause unrest in cities they infiltrate, Assasins destroy all those buildings that keep the people happy, and your priests/immams convert the people to your religion all this combined is a verry verry verry powerfull weapon.

I was playing as the moors and decided Spain had to be mine, but I didn't want to be at war with anyone, so what did I do?

I looked at what territory I wanted first, then I trained Imams whilst I took some rebel provinces by force (no body dislikes you for attacking rebels), in another city I trained my spies (that city would eventually get thieves guild wich is even better) and in a third city assasins (that city would get hashashins guild making the assasins better trained from the start) then when it was time I sent all agents at the same time to the province I wanted, The Imams convert, the Assasins sabotage (first the religious buildings to maximise the effect of your immams), and the spies stir unrest within 2 to 4 turns the city revolts and becomes a rebel city! This was the oportune moment I was waiting for! My armed forces who were waiting at the border (my side of the border, can't have any transgression now can we) rush in, and take the rebel settlement. Result: I gain a settlement without losing trade rights, or being at war and whilst every faction loses it's good name, you simply go from mixed to reliable, and at reliable you remain!

I drove the spanish out of spain and into southern France this way, I destroyed the portugese this way as even capital cities are not safe from this kind of warfare, and I've conquered every city on the Brittish Islands this way, (the fortresses are taking longer). Don't feel bad about using this sneaky tactic, as the AI uses agents against you all the time, if you have a city and it was green all the time, and suddenly it's blue and then red, and you suddenly see lots of squalor unrest, chances are the AI has put a spy in your settlement

EDIT: I forgot to mention the amount of imams I send is 10, the amount of spies is 9 and the amount of assasins is also about 9

That's a very nice tactic to use but how long would take to take over the world...

Yeah. I'd rather just smash everyone and not care about their 'feelings'. Psh, feelings! Bahahahaha!

Yeah it definetly works, done it myself.. But man-o-man is it slow. Just kick some butt and take some names and be done with it! Pit the whole world against your faction, make it a challenge!!

The game gets verry hard tough when the whole world is against you and nobody wants to trade with you, money becomes a big issue, sure you can conquer cities and sack them, but for that you need armies, and to create those you need: money!

The only factions that I can use for the raid sack and get rich style of play is either Turkey or Russia.

with a faction like Moors, this strategy does pay off quite well, you grow slowly but it keeps the 1.000.000 "we are besieged" notifications away. I like to build up my kingdom in calmth not with all kinds of chaos, that way I can stay in control of every situation

I like useing that tactic when i wanna stay isolated and don't wanna become bored with my campign quicker.....I like spies and assasins together and also you can further the population unhappiness if you have military access and put your armies ontop of the trade roads. And the ai won't get mad. I took antioch and gaza that way since i didn't want to start a war (yet) with egypt and that kind of warfare does keep the campign interesting aside with the insane ai..

I'll do this when I want a settlement without going to war with that nation, but usually its easier to just smash them in the field. Once you own 1/4 of the world your inter-nation trade is enough without allies.

ya that happens when you are a strong empire or big, but it also depends on the difficulty of the campaign

Another way for diplomacy i have noticed...

keep sending dips to faction you want to remain friendly with and as agift offer to attack factoin rebels...
you get points for gifting... and every is enemy with rebs...
very good way to get respectible... offer this right before attacking rebel town or army..
    works even better

I tried to keep my reputation in good standing during my current English campaign but it went down in long run because of breaking alliances with factions that are needed any more. I never betrayed an ally but just by breaking alliances alone, my rep dropped down to despicable.

    Default hMMM....

    A great tactic General

WIll apply it in my current Spanish campaign!Meanwhile the economy will increase and towns and fortresses expand-ready to conquer the known world. In the meantime no major wars to disrupt the preperations.WHat could be better?
