Not that many. I've seen some in russsia and also some near baghdad and timbucktu. Theres ALOT of gold in the new world. And some gold deposits near antioch.
yeah but all you need is one goldmine to make you a huge amount of money simply build a fort on top of the gold and fill it with 20 merchants then you can spend all the money you could ever want you will never run out of money.
there's some around the hre and polish area. but rly it only matters where ur capital is and how far it is from the resource.
Yeah, but it's considered a bit of an exploit (rightfully, I'd argue). I do wish there was some way to bolt merchants in place that wasn't so game-breakingly cheap, though. I'm constantly having my merchants displaced by armies and other agents wandering through foreign territory and brushing my merchants aside. It's particulalry bad on the two silk resources next to Constantinople.
Gold is not that good...it's ok I suppose. U get a lot of gold (like heaps) in the New World which sucks a lot because by that time noone cares...
I've avoided using this exploit so I didn't realise you can put a whole shedload of merchants in the fort. You mean you just march them in there and you have multiple merchants trading the same resource?
There's another exploit where you can move a rival merchant off a resource without buying him out. You just move all units away from that resource so the merchant is no longer visible (FoW) then you select your merchant and right click on the resource itself. Your merchant will walk up and bump the rival merchant off the resource, without buying him out.
This way the rival merchant has to buy our your merchant, which is more risky than facing a buyout.
(This exploit now only happens to me by accident, not by design).
man i didnt know that...im going to try that out now.
Regarding the "gold" deposits that people are saying that are located in Russia/HRE/Poland, you might be mistaking Amber for Gold. As far as I know, there are plenty of Amber deposits in Eastern Europe, but there don't seem to be any gold.
Hi
New world has a lot yes, but I like silk more.. And that exploit is just.. Nice.
Yeah he's right. It's amber, still very profitable. I've only found gold in the new world as well as tobacco which is good too.i think you are right. gold and amber are pretty much indistinguishable unless you zoom in (gold is in bars and amber in spheres) or put your cursor over them while you have line of site.
i've still only found that one gold deposit in the old world.
On the multiple merchants in a fort, I didn't know this worked. I thought there was only one merchant to a resource. Can anyone confirm this?

Ummm...there are at least 2 gold deposits down by Timbuktu. Of course you might not call that the "Old World."

I try and build forts over amber but it keeps saying i can't build a fort there.
You need to build the fort where the merchant would stand, at the top right corner of the resource.
The best resource to do this with is the gold deposits just south of Timbuktu.
