Err no, Christians are still are far away from being peaceful debaters/ woman- or deviants-huggers.^^

    Murders

In the United States, violence directed towards abortion providers has killed at least eleven people, including four doctors, two clinic employees, a security guard, a police officer, two people (unclear of their connection), and a clinic escort.[I 17][I 18] Seven murders occurred in the 1990s.[I 19]

    • March 10, 1993: Gynaecologist David Gunn of Pensacola, Florida was fatally shot during a protest. He had been the subject of wanted-style posters distributed by Operation Rescue in the summer of 1992. Michael F. Griffin was found guilty of Gunn's murder and was sentenced to life in prison.[I 20]
    • July 29, 1994: John Britton, a physician, and James Barrett, a clinic escort, were both shot to death outside another facility, the Ladies Center, in Pensacola. Paul Jennings Hill was charged with the killings. Hill received a death sentence and was executed on September 3, 2003. The clinic in Pensacola had been bombed before in 1984 and was also bombed subsequently in 2012.[I 21]
    • December 30, 1994: Two receptionists, Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols, were killed in two clinic attacks in Brookline, Massachusetts. John Salvi was arrested and confessed to the killings. He died in prison and guards found his body under his bed with a plastic garbage bag tied around his head. Salvi had also confessed to a non-lethal attack in Norfolk, Virginia days before the Brookline killings.[I 21]
    • January 29, 1998: Robert Sanderson, an off-duty police officer who worked as a security guard at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, was killed when his workplace was bombed. Eric Rudolph admitted responsibility; he was also charged with three Atlanta bombings: the 1997 bombing of an abortion center, the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing, and another of a lesbian nightclub. He was found guilty of the crimes and received two life sentences as a result.[I 22]
    • October 23, 1998: Barnett Slepian was shot to death with a high-powered rifle at his home in Amherst, New York. His was the last in a series of similar shootings against providers in Canada and northern New York state which were all likely committed by James Kopp. Kopp was convicted of Slepian's murder after being apprehended in France in 2001.[I 23]
    • May 31, 2009: George Tiller was shot and killed by Scott Roeder as Tiller served as an usher at a church in Wichita, Kansas.[I 24] This was not Tiller's first time being a victim to anti-abortion violence. Tiller was shot once before in 1993 by Shelley Shannon, who was sentenced 10 years in prison for the shooting.
    • November 29, 2015: A shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, left three dead and several injured, and a suspect Robert L. Dear was apprehended.[I 25][I 26][I 27] The suspect had previously acted against other clinics, and referred to himself as a "warrior for the babies" at his hearing.[I 28][I 29] Neighbors and former neighbors described the suspect as "reclusive",[I 26] and police from several states where the suspect resided described a history of run-ins dating from at least 1997.[I 27] As of December 2015, the trial of the suspect was open;[I 28] but, on May 11, 2016, the court declared the suspect incompetent to stand trial after a mental evaluation was completed.[I 30]

Oh look, a journalist was murdered during a long running period of civil unrest caused by two factions who have differing ideas on how to deal with their invisible friend...
You would do well not to hijack her murder for your own political ends, my friend. She was murdered by Saoradh, a radical Irish Republican group who iirc were trying to kill police officers or something. If you listen to them, you will hear a lot of crap about occupation, liberation, and various nationalist talking points, but little to no religious extremism. Therefore Lyra Mckee has nothing to do with freedom of speech and religious extremism.

Without wanting to state the obvious, your interlocutor is not debating in good faith. Aside from the fact that the McKee murder is off-topic (and plainly an intentional deflection), I wouldn’t take lectures on Irish nationalism from a Corbyn acolyte.

What a lovely excuse to reframe what we're talking about. Is that the standard you're setting for Western countries? As long as journalists are not killed they can behave as if they're the pinnacle of freedom of speech?

Not debating in good faith? Sure, tell me how religious factionalism had nothing to with the Troubles. Should be fun...

Or can we just all agree that any Christian's assertion of "OMFG!!!1 All Muslamics are teh evil!!11onetwo" is on incredibly shaky ground...

People in glass houses and all that...

You sound like you're quite the expert in their motives. Please tell me more about how I'm definitely wrong when it's apparent that you don't really know yourself...

The smell of hate, part one,

Flying While Jewish: Suspicion can fan the odor of intolerance .

I’ve had my own experience of this kind. Fourteen years ago, my husband and I and our infant son were on our way to Las Vegas for a family reunion when United Airlines tried to boot us off the flight….My husband and son now wear baseball caps over their yarmulkes whenever they fly, and they’ve never been accused of smelling since. A coincidence? Maybe
Charlie Hebdo and the smell of hate, part two

Let's go back to 2016. Charlie Hebdo criticised for linking all Muslims to Brussels

..The terrorists’ role “is simply to provide the end of a philosophical line already begun,” it added.

Charlie Hebdo concluded: “From the bakery that forbids you to eat what you like, to the woman who forbids you to admit that you are troubled by her veil, we are submerged in guilt for permitting ourselves such thoughts. And that is where and when fear has started its sapping, undermining work. And the way is marked for all that will follow.”

Reading this extraordinary editorial by Charlie, it’s hard not to recall the vicious development of ‘the Jewish question’ in Europe and the horrifying persecution it resulted in.
Charlie’s logic is frighteningly similar: that there are no innocent Muslims, that ‘something must be done’ about these people, regardless of their likability, their peacefulness, or their personal repudiation of violence. Such categorisation of an entire community as an insidious poison is a move we have seen before.

The plank in your own eye-
killing for sport, as part of initiation rites.
Afghanistan:Australian elite troops unlawfully killed 39 Afghan...

some patrol commanders, who were treated as "demigods," required junior soldiers to shoot prisoners to achieve their first kill, in aprocess known as "blooding."
According to US military prosecutors, a group of US Army soldiers killed Afghan civilians for sport beginning in January 2010.
Australian Defence Force Chief Angus Campbell has released his final report...The inquiry said junior soldiers were often required by their patrol commanders to shoot prisoners to get their first kill. This was apractice known as "blooding".

Also the left is one to talk on this, given its historic record of religious persecutions, in the most socialists of states.

That's one way actual freedom of speech can be curbed. Simply say "they're worse there so accept what you got." In reality, someone else's failure has no value in validating someone else's failure.
    What aboutism then.

Charlie Hebdo and the smell of hate, part two....
yes im sure they got what they deserved those far left wing artists at Charlie Hebdo. How dare a satirical publication to actual provoke. anyone. I suppose they provoked the wrong conservatives.

More what aboutism. In order to minimize far more heinous crimes . With the bogyman, of Islamophobia.
When the fact is that nothing contributes more to the so called Islamophobia, then to gun down people at Charlie Hebdo. There is no Islamophobic Charlie Hebdo Article that could do such feat. But that act.

The plank in your own eye- killing for sport, as part of initiation rites.
Who the hell defends or minimizes this? all i see here in this thread is what aboutism. The Austraians did too. The Christians do unsavory things too.

And is that supposedly make it alright beheading someone because you feel offended? Are Islam above criticism and mockery, because it could be seen as Islamophobia?!

Have we lost our minds out of fear? i think so.

I'm still waiting for "nearly everyone" to murder Hebdo staffers, since Hebdo "take on or offend nearly everyone."

Of course not. You don't need to blindly follow any medieval cults to be Islamophobic. I'm just merely pointing out the hypocrisy of it all...

I hate double standards:if you insult judaism it’s anti-semitism(yes,its is anti-semitism!);but if you insult Islam, its freedom of speech. Let’s see,

    Let’s go back in time.
    1)
In 2008, one of the earliest contributors to Charlie Hebdo,Siné,was fired after being accused of anti-Semitism.
Siné commented in Charlie Hebdo that then-president Nicolas Sarkozy's son Jean would "go far",pointing to his burgeoning political career and a report that he was considering converting to Judaism before marrying an heiress of a wealthy Jewish family.
In the end, what happened? a court found him not guilty of inciting racial hatred and another court awarded him 90,000 euros for wrongful dismissal. FormerCharlie Hebdo cartoonist Siné dies after controversial

2)The other, ugly side of the coin.
Titled Migrants, this Charlie Hebdo cartoon suggests dead 3-year-old refugee AlanKurdi would have been like one of the men who abused women in Cologne on New Year's Eve.
They put this question:"what would've become of Aylan had he grown up?"

Disguntly sick, Muslim faces are part-monkey,part-pig. As far as I know, the cartoonist was not fired. In this case, its "free speech".

What everyone gets wrong about Charlie Hebdo and racism ...

Some argue that any questioning of Charlie Hebdo's cartoons implies sympathy with the terrorists or is tantamount to criticism of free speech itself, but this is a fallacy.
We, as a society, have all agreed that there can never be any justification for such an attack and that free speech is an irreducible value. That question has been answered.

But an entirely separate set of questions still stand: are Charlie Hebdo's cartoons racist? Did they go a step beyond satire and become something uglier?

This is a regular pattern in Charlie Hebdo's cartoons, even if you see the two-layer satire they often play at... Reading Charlie Hebdo cartoons and covers in the aggregate, a reader is given the uniform and barely-concealed message that Muslims are categorically bad, violent, irrational people.
This characterization indulges and indeed furthers some of the widest and most basic stereotypes of the world's 1.6 billion Muslims...Yes,sometimes it also criticizes Catholicism, but it is best known for its broadsides against France's most vulnerable populations.
Put aside the question of racist intent: the effect of this is to exacerbate a culture of hostility, one in which religion and race are also associated with status and privilege, or lack thereof.
CharlieHebdo reinforces the very racism it is trying to satirise

CharlieHebdo does not particularly care if the cartoon actually reinforces the very racism it purportedly is trying to satirise, if indeed it is. But those of us who truly are anti-racist cannot be indifferent to those consequences and the “collateral damage” that might befaced by migrants and refugees themselves

I did not ask what he wrote. I asked how that is relevant to the post he was responding to:

Oh I see. It’s because several Charlie Hebdo staffers were shot and murdered a few years ago for the crime of satirising Mohammed. That’s why.

It was free speech in the previous example too. And they were penalised for taking action against it, so why are you surprised that they didn't repeat their mistake?
