ESF Editor Help (Unhandled Exception Errors)

So I'm attempting to edit a default startpos.esf file to make minor factions playable, add victory conditions, and modify the AI profiles for minor factions.

However certain edits in the ESF editor cause an Unhandled Exception Error after I save them. But for other edits this issue doesn't appear. Changing faction colors or making a faction playable won't cause an Unhandled Exception Error, but edits like adding victory conditions does.

For example:

- I go through the steps from the Startpos tutorials to change the Mughals from being non-playable to Playable.
- Save the ESF, then drop into ETW Data folder
- Launch the game, everything works. Mughals are now playable.

- I clone the victory conditions block from the Maratha
- Change the faction ID to Mughal
- Change the region ID for World Domination to be the faction capitol (Hindustan)
- Save the ESF
- Unhandled Exception Error (Bad Value 78 at 0) (No idea what this means)
- Move the ESF into the ETW data folder
- Game will launch, but selecting the Mughals will crash the campaign and return to main menu

Am I doing something wrong? I've been following the tutorials from here: (https://www.twcenter.net/forums/show...D-startpos-esf) but again, certain edits cause the ESF to not work, but for other edits it works just fine.

I assume Hindustan is for this?

One of them must be always the capitol region

It sounds a bit like you're putting in faulty data in some way, sorry I can't help you more than that. The ESF editor seems to either expect something else (make sure you're doing it exactly right when you put the regions) or it wasn't coded for the latest patch.

I'm not an ETW modder, this is just based off my coding experience. Sorry I can't be of more help.
