Well yes, those who seek to ban abortion on grounds that a fetus has the right to life must logically consider the circumstances of conception irrelevant. In this case, though, they would probably have the moral escape route that the mother's life would be at risk from the pregnancy. Would have been different if the girl had been, like, 14 or 15 or so.

The whole question aside, I hate both sides politicising the 10 year olds situation. The US has a mostly fair system but the way this was weaponised sickens me. Both sides have elements playing this filthy game. Happened with Kavanaughs appointment too, whatever the facts, the woman's story got weaponised without her consent, then there was the counterattacks etc, filthy stuff.

    1. that's a good way to complain about something.

    2. 4368 children dead to gun violence. I thought that was the number since Cruz became a senator or something, certainly more than 5 years. And then I saw that all these children have been killed by gun violence in the first half of 2022!!!!
    4368 children, 4368 children!

USA will probably have 8000 dead children by the turn of the year. That is an atrocious number for a 1st world country.

Sounds high? Certainly most US gun deaths are self harm and accidents, and i inagine thats an artefact of saturation, ot a problem that can be solved easily.

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita (R) says he will be looking into the licensure of the physician who provided abortion services to a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio who made national headlines after she traveled out of state to receive the procedure.
Caitlin Bernard, an Indiana obstetrician-gynecologist, publicly shared earlier this month in an interview published by the The Indianapolis Star that she would be assisting the young girl, who was prohibited from getting an abortion under Ohio’s six-week ban.

The case has been the focus of intense scrutiny, as it comes just weeks after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade, eliminating the federal right to an abortion.
According to Bernard, she was contacted by a colleague who is a child abuse doctor in Ohio.
Rokita appeared on Fox News Wednesday and referred to Bernard as an “abortion activist acting as a doctor.” He accused her of having a history of failing to report abortions and that an investigation into the physician and her license is underway.
“We’re gathering the evidence as we speak, and we’re going to fight this to the end, including looking at her licensure if she failed to report. And in Indiana it’s a crime … to intentionally not report,” Rokita said.

Bernard has yet to respond publicly to Rokita’s remarks. The Indianapolis Star reported Thursday, citing documents it obtained, that Bernard reported the 10-year-old’s abortion by filing a form through the Indiana Department of Health and the Department of Child Services, on which she noted that the patient had been abused.
According to the Star, Bernard filed the form two days after the procedure, in compliance with Indiana law requiring notification within three days for patients under age 16.
It's clear that yes, for many on the right a ten-year old being raped and impregnated is far less of a crime than an abortion.

It could be 8000 children a day and Cruz and his fellow Republicans would still respond with indifference. Their voters need to own machine guns for reasons beyond wanting to go on a mass shooting (reasons that they never elaborate on) and the gun manufactures profits (along with the kickbacks the Republicans get for flooding the country with guns) is far more important to them.

Its a witchhunt against Dr Bernard and other doctors, which make abortions in Indiana.

However, those claims appear to be stretched. They’re based on 48 instances where the doctors reported abortions on minors to the Department of Health but left blank a field asking for the date when the cases were reported to the Department of Child Services, according to a 2018 story in the South Bend Tribune.
Indiana Right to Life filed complaints against the physicians with the state health department and the attorney general’s office. The outcome of the state’s investigation into the complaints is unclear. A spokeswoman for the organization said “the State did look into it,” but when asked to share related documents, she referred The Post to the attorney general’s office, which did not address an inquiry about them.
The Indiana Department of Health did not respond to multiple requests from The Post. A review of records from DocInfo — a physician licensure and disciplinary information data set from the Federation of State Medical Boards — and the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana did not show any disciplinary activity or license terminations against Bernard or any of the other doctors.
Rokita’s office did not respond to requests for further documentation of his claims.
Abortion is now banned in these states. See where laws have changed.Katie McHugh, an Indiana OB/GYN and board member with Physicians for Reproductive Health, called the allegations “baseless attacks” that underscore how “abortion providers are being targeted by a state that is creating a threatening pose that is neither legal, nor is it appropriate.”
“This is a waste of government time and of taxpayer dollars for a political stunt that doesn’t chase after the actual criminal here,” McHugh added. “It doesn’t even center on the victim and instead focuses on a physician providing legal and evidence-based care.”
Some abortion services will likely be outlawed as Indiana’s Republican-controlled legislature holds a special legislative session later this month. Though details of the proposed abortion law are scant, it’s expected to closely follow a model for legislation crafted by National Right to Life general counsel Jim Bopp, Politico reported. Bopp’s model almost completely bans abortion — with a sole exception for cases where the pregnant person’s life is at stake.

Record shows Indiana doctor fulfilled duty to report 10-year-old’s abortion (msn.com)

And it seems other ten year old rape victims must travel to the East Coast and Califormia in the future, as Indiana is going to ban abortions on a wider scale too (see the article above).

Perhaps young women, who don't want to be maidens should immigrate from Gilead to Canada, New Zealand, UK or East Coast / California.

What's worse is these laws are not even the will of the people. Republicans have gerrymandered and suppressed voting so much that a Republican vote is worth at least ten Democratic votes.

Women should be advised to get out of red states at all cost, because soon they will be stripped of their civil rights and it will be illegal for them to leave. This is certain, with the only question being how bad things will get. I could see them forcing raped little girls to marry their rapists, or honor killing them.

Its funny, because same people that wanted vaccines to be mandatory are for some reason hypocritically upset about possibility of abortions being limited. Didn't you guys want your body to be government's choice? You got that monkey paw wish, now own it.

    https://thehill.com/homenews/media/3...po-nyt-awards/

The Pulitzer Prize board on Monday rejected requests from former President Trump to revoke national reporting awards given to The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Trump had repeatedly asked the board to rescind the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes in National Reporting, which were awarded to the staffs of the two outlets for their reporting examining Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The Pulitzer board commissioned a review of the winning works, but found no reason to pull back the awards.
“The separate reviews converged in their conclusions: that no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes,” the board said in a statement.

“The 2018 Pulitzer Prizes in National Reporting stand,” the statement continued.

The board said the review followed an established, formal process to review complaints against winning entries.
Trump has pressed for the Pulitzers to be revoked since October, labeling the winning stories “totally incorrect reporting” that “have become worthless and meaningless.”

Trump responded to this like the mature individual he is known to be.

No wait, Manbaby threw a tantrum. How dare these mere peasants defy him!

Former President Trump on Monday cast the Pulitzer Prize board’s rejection of his demand to revoke awards given to The New York Times and The Washington Post as “running cover” for “the biggest reporting failure in modern history.”
The board earlier Monday said it would not fulfill multiple requests by Trump to rescind awards to the staff of the two newspapers in 2018 for reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election because it saw no reason to do so.

“The Pulitzer Board has taken away any shred of credibility it had left with its ‘response’ regarding the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting, which was awarded to The New York Times and The Washington Post for blatant fake news,” Trump said in a statement.
“Instead of acting with integrity and providing transparency, the Pulitzer Board is running cover for the biggest reporting failure in modern history: the fake Russia Russia Russia collusion hoax,” he added.
Trump then suggested that the only Pulitzer the two newspapers should be awarded was if a new category called “disinformation” was created.
“The truth is that the 2018 Pulitzer Prize was handed out for reporting that merely parroted political disinformation—disinformation that we know was fabricated by foreign operatives and my political opponents,” Trump said.
“If the Pulitzer Prize has become a blatant acknowledgement of false, liberal political propaganda, then the Pulitzer Board should just say so,” he added.
Trump always throws a toddler tantrum when his demands are not being met, and it's pretty obvious why. He got special treatment as a child because of his father's money and it made him think he’s entitled to special treatment as an adult. And because his parents found it easier to just give him whatever he wanted than deal with his tantrums, he learned that tantrums work and so has continued to throw them whenever the world doesn't capitulate to his every demand. He is used to people bending over backwards to try and please him. Like a fish in water he's completely unaware of this and just thinks it's the way things are.

A lesson to any wealthy parents who might ever read this thread; you still need to parent your child. Don't just give them whatever they want because it's easier than dealing with a tantrum. Spend time with them, don't let sycophants and kiss-ups be their main source of human interaction. Do you want a child who’ll turn out like Donald Trump?

The Mississippi Board of Education voted Thursday to repeal a policy barring guns in state public schools in order to comply with the state’s enhanced-carry law.
The Board voted to repeal a 1990 policy prohibiting “the possession of pistols, firearms, or weapons in any form by any person other than duly authorized law enforcement officials on school premises or at school functions.”
When you consider how the gun lobby draws bigger profits after every school shooting by having right-wing media denounce the shooting as fake and a plot by Democrats to take away guns ("Better buy as much as you can right now!"), it's really no surprise they use their Republican lackeys to make sure as many school shootings happen as possible.

That seems to have more to do with shooters being groomed by law enforcement as part of some nontransparent "undercover" thing and then both feds and local cops just happen to not do anything about stopping it, unless a good guy with a gun gets in the shooter's way.

I haven't looked into it, but I assume the reasoning is actually that gun free zones are targeted by murderers/terrorists precisely because everyone is disarmed.

Either way, the logic of the "good guy with a gun" doesn't seem to hold in practice. Not just talking about the fact that only 3% of shootings in the US are ended by one (after how many casualties?). As the article also points out, many shooters are not deterred by the prospect of dying and, being prepared and having the initiative, can do massive damage within mere seconds.

It’s not that vigilantes are the antidote to mass shooters. The closest thing to that would be to go back in time and stop leftists from normalizing the idea it’s ok to go around having litters of illegitimate children who are much more likely to grow up to hate the world for making them be born to crappy parents. It’s that, as you point out, shooters are often well prepared to carry out the sudden and rapid attack and are committed to the death. Therefore, it’s a kill or be killed situation. Having something to protect yourself with is better than nothing, especially since bearing arms is a constitutional right and police are able to halt the attack through intervention less than a third of the time. Either way, the logic of “just call the police” doesn’t seem to hold in practice.

Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

According to the article, one in four "active shooter" situations was ended by the killer being shot at the scene by someone other than himself (i.e. by a "good guy with a gun"). This not to mention that shooters flee the scene to evade armed law enforcement and will later have to be detained by armed law enforcement.

Setting that aside, the article does not comment on how active shooters pick their targets (which seems to be the reason for the cited law change). Presumably shooters are deterred by the knowledge/expectation/prospect that a potential target is immediately protected by firearms, even if they have no fear of death.

Active shooters typically pick targets that can't shoot back. And anti-gun lunatics want to to create more of such targets and make mass shooter's lives easier.

Back on planet Earth, most mass-shootings happen in places that the perpetrator has ties to.
