Any way to fix/prevent crashes?

It depends. Where are the crashes occuring?

Freeze right after Pirates turn/when my turn should start. One save got corrupted like that.
I currently try another playthrough with saves every few turns. No issues so far.

You mentioned a save getting corrupted. In my experience, when saves start being corrupted (the game crashes when you load them), this keeps happening (even reinstalling the game) until I use the solution in this post.

I've a few times in the past also got corrupted gamesaves and when that happen I always do two things.

1. Check how many gamesaves I have in the C:\Users\Leonardo\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\save_games folder
2. If there are too many I select all gamesaves I want to remove and store them in an archive then I delete the selected gamesaves
3. After that I use Auslogic Disk Defrag to optimize C:\
