Thread: export EDU, EDA and EDCT to spreadsheet

  1. #1

Default export EDU, EDA and EDCT to spreadsheet

    Hello everyone,

Here is a tool to export the EDU, EDA and EDCT to CSV format (v0.4). From there you just have to import it in a spreadsheet using Excel, LibreCalc or any same program.

For now it is based on SSHIP, but I could adapt it to other mods on demand. I think the EDA and EDCT export are a bit clunky, feedback is more than welcome!

Please post here any bug report, feedback and suggestions.

    How to use:
    - Download and unzip.
    - Keep the folder as it is: for the program to work you must have M2TW_data_exporter.exe, M2TW_data_exporter.mxf and subfolder "resources" in the same folder
    -
    Run M2TW_data_exporter.exe (not .mxf)
    - Select a file, eventualy select what parameters you want to see, then click save and save in .csv format. (looks like exporting in a txt file and then copy/paste to an open spreadsheet also works)
    - Finally open the .csv file with a spreadsheet editor (Excel, LibreCalc, what you like)
    - If asked, use TAB as separator for the import to a spreadsheet.
    - enjoy!

Could please a moderator change the thread name to something like "export .txt to spreadsheet" please? Thanks!

I find the current title more telling for those who don't know what's the tool is about. Maybe "export EDU EDCT and other .txt to spreadsheet"?

(I'm not moderator of this forum)

You should be able to change the title of the thread yourself - go to 'Edit' the first post, then 'Go Advanced' then you'll see a box where you can change the title.

Have just tried this it looks useful to compare unit sizes/values quickly

I wondered if you'd thought of adding a reverse process?! Actually being able to change the spreadsheet and convert csv back to EDU format etc. would be very handy...

(I couldn't get a saved .csv to open properly in my version of Excel, but saving as .txt and copy/pasting it all in to an excel sheet worked fine.)

Thanks for the info, I'm new to the forum and missed that "advanced" thing!

Thanks for the feedback, I'm thinking about the reverse process but I have not started on it yet, first I'll look into EDB export also.

Hello @bplsom, my tool does not cover importing the speadsheet back to the EDU. Howerer I now this nice tool made by XXZit may be what you're looking for.

Hello everyone, quick update on this set of tools: I'm now developing it mainly to help the SSHIP team I joined. I'm adding support for the descr_faction_standing export, and a way to create automatic detailed unit stat descriptions from the EDU and exporting it into the desc_units. If there is interest I'll make a clean interface with these new functionalities, now it's a huge mess only I can opperate!

Lol, that sounds familiar from some of wilddog's more radical attempts at updates to the IWTE tool... Good luck with the sort out!

Thanks, I actually went on with cleaning the progam ant it's interface and I'm making good progress, and it should be ready in a few weeks tops, once I'm finished moving all the scripts to node.js. It would then be fairly easy to operate: select mod folder, select destination of exported files, select the action you want, and click a "compile" button. It's even making an automatic backup of the original files.
