Thread: The Alt Right is Everywhere

  1. #1

Default The Alt Right is Everywhere

The Alt Right and its persistent messaging has become so prevalent many people who wouldn't know it share their views in Western Democracies. Rejecting science especially data science and diametrically opposed to equal rights for all peoples.

Lets discuss alt right views - heres a primer from wiki

The alt-right has been characterized as belonging on the far-right of the political spectrum.[232][233] There is no unifying manifesto behind the alt-right and different people who describe themselves as "alt-rightists" express different beliefs about what it wants to achieve.[234] There are nevertheless recurring attitudes that exist within the movement.[234]

The alt-right's views are profoundly anti-egalitarian,[235] and it rejects many of the basic premises of the Age of Enlightenment and classical liberalism.[236] For this reason, Hawley thought that "the Alt-Right seems like a poor fit for the United States, where both the left and right have roots in classical liberalism and the Enlightenment."[237]

The key division within the alt-right is between those who embrace explicitly neo-Nazi and white supremacist stances, and those white nationalists who present a more moderate image.[238] Wendling suggested that this was "a distinction lacking a hugely significant difference".[239] The white supremacist and neo-Nazi alt-rightists are sometimes termed "1488s", a combination of the white supremacist fourteen words slogan with 88, a coded reference to "HH", or "Heil Hitler".[240] These neo-Nazi elements represent a minority within the alt-right.[241] Many on the less extreme end of the movement are critical of them, believing that they "go too far" or generate bad publicity for it.[242] Some of the latter mock the neo-Nazi and explicitly white supremacist elements as "Stormfags", a reference to the white supremacist website Stormfront.[243]

One of the most common beliefs across the alt right is that feminism has cuckolded society into believing things like gender discrimination and the gender wage gap are real. All the evidence in the world is not enough for them to accept either as existing.

It is the unscientific approach that irks me in many of the conspiracy theories pandered by the alt-right. And it's the seer implausibility of other conspiracy theories (like Bill Gates wants to implant us with a microchip or something) that makes me lose faith in humanity.

Must we really have a thread about a conspiracy theory that nobody has yet managed to prove?

It's about SEVERAL conspiracy theories from my understanding. I just mentioned one.
The "Obama was born in Kenya" was another one. etc. Make your pick.

    There are threads here about conspiracy theories like systemic racism isn't real, the bible is, and that Trump is anything but one of the worst Presidents in American history regardless of your subjective views and party affiliation (he isn't even a great racist for a president) so Bill Gates and QANON and so on would have its place;

however his is the thread about how the alt right has managed to use impressive internet savvy and unrelenting messaging to inject its anything but data driven ideas into the mainstream dialogue.

a'ight. Would the OP then please demonstrate to us his/her understanding of data science by demonstrating the two tenants mentioned in the OP, gender wage gap, and gender discrimination gap, based on data analysis of evidence?

Sooo the way you understand this thread it's about nothing specific, and it addresses a movement that afaik has no representation on this forum here, so it really can't be anything but idle chatter about nothing specific and with little more in common than a vaguely defined demographic being ascribed to hold these beliefs, and with a "wiki primer" meaning the first paragraph about said movement that doesn't even mention conspiracy theories, and yet you consider this one here a valid thread? What kind of insight and knowledge do you expect to gain here?

What do stupid theories like Bill Gates wanting to install microchips & Obama having been born in Kenya have to do with gender wage gap?
Are the former two even exclusive to the same fringe group? No, they are not, not least since there's plenty of antivaxxers etc. that are otherwise on the "left". No they are not, since the alt-right is pretty much limited to the anglospeaking world, with other cultures having other political movements on the far right, and the Bill Gates conspiracy having cast a rather world wide web, whereas the Obama one was pretty much only an issue in the US.

So is there anything of value to be gained from bundling those into one category, implying that anyone believing them is part of the alt right?

Is it not kind of ridiculous that the "Wiki Primer", which is hilariously the only source, by not even mentioning conspiracy theories, pretty much states that the alt right is primarily about something different?

Fine, you may say that the alt right primarily is about something different, but its adherents have a propensity to believe conspiracy theories. Great. But doesn't that kind of imply that they are alone in doing so?! Isn't it pretty much the hallmark of any fringe group to have some conspiracy theories they believe in? Which brings one back to the question: What is the debate here then?!

If you insist on going full Alex Jones with your "alt right" conspiracy theory I suggest taking it to the Thema Devia. This is a place for serious discussion.

    !

The truth of them is all existing or not is easily gleaned.

Sardonic (def) = grimly mocking or cynical

Are there progressives, liberals, conservatives, libertarians etc on here. If so why do think the alt right isn't (it is)?

Indeed it is. The Kenya rumor was started by Hillary, the microchips rumor was started by BLM, QAnon was exposed as a BLM marxist who wanted to trigger protests. The alt-right is about as real as the Illuminati and reptilians.

Settra, please tell me you're joking. Do you really think there's no alt-right? Despite some people openly identifying themselves as such?
And whomever started those Kenya rumors (which was not Hillary but it was picked up by a few idiots that supported Hillary) it was Trumpo that propagated them. Same with the rest of the conspiracy theories. Even if those were started as you say they do, the alt-right believes and promotes them. It doesn't give them a free pass just because the poo originated elsewhere.

That's one conclusion. The other is he believes the Illuminati and reptilians are real.

Illuminati and Reptilians are about as reasonable as what OP posted.

Do you seriously believe that people who claimed to be part of a secret global organization of nazis that aims to take over the world though memes and bad jokes are not clearly trolling? The concept of the "alt-right" started with the so called "leftis" in america, and it's enough to look at the people who get associated with to it to see how real it is: Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Steven Pinker, Bill Burr, Joe Rogan. A self-help canadian, two talkative jews, a meh comedian and a drug-addict mma commentator. That is the great nazi threat that OP is talking about? Surely you must see how ridiculous this is.
