Just out of curiosity, I wanted to create a new religion, Protestanism, in a hypothetical mod (haven't decided if I wanted to go through with it yet) and I wanted to see how this could be done and which pre-existing ones could I base it off of.

I would like to know that, too!!!![]()
i believe you cant create new religeons you will have to edit a current religeon to be what you want, sorry.

It's possible and easy, there are just a few files to edit :
descr_religion.txt
descr_religion_lookup.txt
text\religions.strings.bin
ui\pips\pip_judaism.tga
world\maps\base\descr_regions.txt
(sorry, I don't remember exactly the file names)
I added judaism for my mod MPack 2.2
Hmmm >.< i was tolled it was impossible to add new religeons.

Octavius, perhaps you can post here a more exact technical description of how?
Does conversion and stuff work properly this time around?
How about priests?
Did you test how many new religions you can add?
Octavius' mod can be found here (it's in French):
http://totalwar.servergamers.com/for...showtopic=4714
After examining the mod and doing what Octavius said I was able to add a new religion. To make a culture follow your new religion you have to go to the data\descr_sm_factions.txt file and change the faction's religion to your religion (avoid Catholics as you need to remove their alliance with the Pope and their Cardinals).
I have done some testing, however since I am also trying to get a new culture to follow this religion it's hard to say how well this works. Currently the religious building to do not convert people to this religion (this may be a culture bug), though priests can. I have not tested how many religions can be added.
NB: in the MPack 2.2 mod there are no Jewish factions or buildings, Judaism is just another religion that can occur in settlements. Since there is no one to propagate this religion it is unlikely to increase.

Read what Octavious said. Pretty much summed it up.
I've already added Hinduism and its works fine, very easy to do.
Is there a hardcoded limit for this?
Sure there are
we just don't know them yet
On the subject of religions, how does the religion system work? The population of a city has to be x, y, or z, ... I know. But is there an algorithim for how the conversion of religion A to the official religion of the city is decided?
I was asking because, if I added the religions I want to add, not only is religion going to become a far more major part of the game, but more organized. (I have 8 religions: Catholic, heretic catholic, Orthodox, heretic orthodox, "christian", pagan, Sunni, and Shi'ite) For instance: Paris, say it has 85% catholics, 7% christians, 5% catholic heretics, and 3% pagan. Is the game able to be modded so that, to increase the number of catholics, I must (and can only) convert "christians" and catholic heretics, to Catholics..... while the pagans of the city would need to be converted to christians first, and then become able to convert to catholics.
I had the idea of making priests convert the population to christianity, and from there the churches in a region would take over and convert from christianity to either catholic or orthodox. If a priest converted the people of a region to christianity and then there were no churches to convert the "christians" to catholics or orthodoxy, then they would either stay as christians, or turn to heretical religions or pagans.
The idea here would be to add levels to the religion aspect of the game. Maybe I should see if I could add like a "friar" agent? something to look into.
I just tried it and it doesnt work.
Hmm, too bad it seems that jihads / crusades are hardcoded to islam/catholic
Otherwise we could add Shite and Sunni and have them funtion correctly.

Well, hypothetically, my idea was to add protestants, therefore there would be no need for said religious wars. Although, that would be interesting to see.
The hard limit for religions is 10. Which was JUST enough for my mod. I tested it out. With 11, you get CTD before you get to the menu. With 10, it works fine.
Is there a way to split rebels, one part is heretic the other one pagan ( or some other religion), with agents apearing ( like heretics)?
