    Default Historical Battles/Battle Editor

    Hello all,

Is there a way to play any of the historical battles or battles created in the battle editor? As it is, when I press start to 'start' the battle, I am just returned to the previous screen. I hope there is a way to at least play battles created in the battle editor. I think that is one of the most enjoyable aspects of M2TW.

    Hello!
Yes, these battles can be played)
If the battle does not start, then it was created incorrectly. Check victory conditions, placement points and other parameters.

I was able to load into the battle I created, but when I press 'Start Battle' the game crashes. Any thoughts?

Everything is the same - some parameters are incorrectly set. Check victory conditions, units compositions, etc.

You can compare your resulting file with files from other modifications. Everything looks about the same in all battle files.
Here is an example describing the required blocks in the file:

Here is the descr_battle.txt for the battle in question. I really am at a loss, I do not see what is hindering it from working properly. I load into the battle but immediately upon pressing 'start battle' following the deployment phase, the game crashes stating that "Medieval II has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit". Also, I still am completely unable to load the historical scenarios. I have the submods SSHIP and KCC 0.9.4 but I do not believe they are interfering with this, though I thought I should perhaps mention it. Forgive my somewhat base knowledge of this, I thank you for your help so far.

    Options:
try adding a victory condition for the attacking army: capture a settlement
try to delete the settlement and start the battle without it
try adding a second faction to the playable factions and start the battle from its side.

    About the battles available:
they probably do not start because they are simply not adapted for modification.

I was able to fix the crashing, it seems one must delete the settlement info in order to start. In any case, I now have a different problem that seems to only take place in custom made editor battles. When I order a unit, cavalry or infantry, to charge they immediately change their spacing to much deeper ranks. It is particularly annoying for cavalry, as I usually draw my cavalry up in a 3-4 rank deep group. Upon the order to attack however, they immediately change to an irritatingly deep formation with only about 12 or so men in the front rank. As I say this seems to only happen in battles created with the editor, so naturally I wonder what can be done to remedy this. It is very annoying and rather kills the fun of custom editor battles for me. Any thoughts?

afaik cavalry changes to that formation when you tell them to attack a target that is very far away, this happens regardless of wether it's a custom map, campaign battle or whatever, it always happens everywhere

there's no solution other than to rearange the formation when they are closer to the enemy
