Default 2min+ Turns ruining game experience

Hello and thanks for looking into this thread.

I have an issue with every mod I try to run in Medieval 2. The turn times are horrible. Im talking 2+ minutes.
I scavaged this forum for every solution suggested and not one worked.
    My system:

    i5 3570k with 3.40GHz
    2*8GB and 2*4GB RAM
    Nvidia Geforce gtx 1060 6GB

    What I tried so far:

    - Setting higher priority in task manager.
    - Disabling Antivirus
    - Starting in compability modes/Admin
    - I never follow AI moves (just because this is always the first suggestion)
    - Turning down every setting to minimum
    - Reinstalling
    - Making sure DirektX9 Files are present

Since my gaming time is limited halving it to watch idly is a huge pain.
If you have any ideas what I could try, please post them!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Are you playing vanilla Medieval II or a mod ?

Turn times are governed by the campaign script, eg how many monitors it contains, no graphic solution will have any impact here.

A delay is also possible due to long winded animations on the map, like the French princess or Scottish ambassador making an offer to England. These animations can be accelerated by simply pressing the spacebar once. Having done that the first turn in the default campaign should take about 20 seconds or less.

I am assuming you are not lifting the fog of war via the console - THAT would have a major impact on turn time. Following characters while the fog is present or not following them doesn't make a difference where turn times are concerned as animations of visible characters will still take place.

Hello, thanks for the answers so far.
I am playing mods, only mods in fact. SSHIP and DaC.
And no, the issue is not because those mods make the game slower, because I can watch people playing the game with 20 times less turn-time.

I tried pressing spacebar. Has no impact.

SSHIP and DaC both have large scripts. If you want to test by how much the script actually extends the turntimes then simply remove the last line in the descr_strat.txt file (make a back up). It's in this directory: ..\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

And when you watch a let's play have a look if the faction symbols are actually passing by one at a time at the top. If not then author has cut out that part. Minimum turn time is 5-10 seconds without a script, it goes downhill from there.

So, disabling scripts takes the game back to normal turn times of a few seconds.
Which, to me at least, means that there is a problem with the way my system processes the scripts.

And, no. Its not "these mods take longer". Turn 150 means 5min+. There is something somewhere that is going wrong.

If you have to wait 5+ mins in DaC/SSHIP then I guess MoS would achieve quantum eternity on your PC

Sry for digression, that's sucks indeed.

I can only see 2 reasons:

    1) Windows UAC
    2) Restricted access to folders within steam / Medieval directory

    Thanks for the ideas!
Hmmm. I recently made sure to enably everyone to have full access to my steam folder.
Im not sure about Windows UAC, I deactivated it and it doesnt seem to have an effect.
