Seeing as this mod covers these "factions" for the lack of a better word, what literature would you recommend someone to learn about roughly medieval greater Iran(that's the best I can sum it up).

I am fascinated by the time period and place, but it seems not so easy to find stuff on them in English.

Morgan's Medieval Persia is a very condensed history of Iran from the fall of the Buyids to the rise of the Qajars. The narration is obviously very elementary, because not much can be said about eight centuries in just 200 pages, but the book can serve as an initial introduction to the political history of various Muslim dynasties, like the Ghaznavids, Ilkhanids, Timurdis and etc. Otherwise, if you have easy access to a large university library, you could consult the Cambridge History of Iran. The earlier volumes concern only the Antiquity (like the Achaemenids or the Arsacids), but numbers 4 and 5 describe exactly what you ask for. They are a bit dated in certain regards, but also definitely more detailed than Morgan's work.

As Abdülmecid said Cambridge History of Iran, particularly volume 4 and 5 is a good read.

Besides that there is History of civilizations of Central Asia volume 4 which you can download from the unesco website:
    https://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000111664

A good atlas for this area is: Yuri Bregel - An Historical Atlas of Central Asia.

You can also have a look at: The Cambridge History of Early Inner Asia. This is more focused on the steppes and a larger timeframe.

There are also older books like : Le Strange The Lands of the Eastern Caliphate Mesopotamia Persia and Central Asia from the Moslem Conquest to the Time of Timur and
Barthold, Wasilij - Turkestan Down to the Mongol invasion

    Best regards
