WHO IS HE?


At the onset of the Trojan War godlike Agamemnon commanded the largest fleet ever to sail the Aegean sea. Driven by an all-encompassing lust for power and glory, the king of Mycenae rallied the many kingdoms of Achaea against Troy, determined to raze the fabled city to the ground in pursuit of his bloody ambition.

The aging warrior still inspired awe on the battlefield with his heavy armour and the mighty swings of his mace. He and his younger brother Menelaus shared a thirst for revenge against Paris, who had seduced the Spartan ruler’s wife and fled across the waters with her.


The Mycenaean leader’s formidable will was also the source of his hubris. In The Iliad, Homer recounts how Agamemnon, through arrogance and unyielding pride, offended Apollo himself, then provoked Achilles into withdrawing the support of his Myrmidons, with disastrous results.

King Agamemnon, ruler of gold-rich Mycenae, has but one ambition: to become the High King of all Achaeans!

Agamemnon has the unique ability to create vassals from conquered states or friends that acknowledge his superior power. And through the Lion’s Share – his unique mechanic – Agamemnon can exact regular tribute from them or enforce extraordinary demands on a whim.



Agamemnon has an empire on his mind, and through “King of Men” he can rear his entourage of heroes and assigning them to positions in court, which provide benefits to the realm and increases their loyalty to him.



START LOCATION



Wide-ruling Agamemnon can give but only one response to Queen Helen’s abduction, and that is war!

The slight to his brother’s honour can undermine Agamemnon’s own authority and jeopardize his ultimate ambition. Menelaus will have his full support in this endeavour and together Troy will be made an example for all.

But power at home must be secured before Agamemnon can embark on overseas expeditions. The warriors of Tiryns wage war on Troizen – Mycenae’s allies and vassals. This cannot stand.

From his throne, Agamemnon must unite under his rule all nearby lords and make the Trojans pay for their insult to him.

Sarpedon

WHO IS HE?

Hailing from the land of Lycia in Asia Minor, Sarpedon was renowned on both sides of the Aegean for his valour and prowess in battle. A formidable warrior who inspired terror in the enemy and courage in his men, he was said to be the son of the almighty Zeus himself.

The Iliad celebrates the Lycian ruler as a fearless commander who contributed to many victories, and whose fighting spirit rivalled that of Hector. When his Trojan allies led the charge aginst the newly built Achaean wall, Sarpedon and his steadfast Lycians held the battlements and were the first to enter the rival camp. He was faithful to his friends and merciless to those who opposed him, waging war with the might of the king of the gods flowing through his veins.


PLAYSTYLE


Wise Sarpedon seeks and stockpiles “Precious Resources” which other people overlook. As soon as Lycia controls a settlement, the goods will start to accumulate and by spending them Sarpedon will bestow various benefits:

• Celestial Iron – reduces unit cost and increases damage
• Minoan Relics – grant influence and Divine favour
• White Granite – reduces construction costs

Sarpedon spreads his tribe’s influence in other factions’ territories by trading with them through his “Lycian Trade Missions” mechanic. Once under his sway, he can ask them for Precious Resources found in their regions or affect their trade by breaking or stealing existing barter agreements.


START LOCATION


Long ago, Sarpedon’s people were banished from rich and beautiful Crete by the invading Acheans. Now Lycia is Troy’s ally and will stand again against the invaders on the side of King Priam.

Sarpedon starts at the city Thelmessos – to the north lie the ruins of destroyed settlements. These can be recolonised.
To the east are the lands of the Leleges; these tribes wage war on the coastal Ionians and you can choose to make them allies or easy prey.
Across the sea, on rich and beautiful Rhodes, the Achaeans have established prosperous settlements. From these they hope to keep Lycia at bay.
Becoming familiar with potential friends and enemies will be prudent in these uncertain times before moving in to retake his ancestral homeland.

Renowned on both sides of the Aegean, Sarpedon is for those who prefer to prefer to utilise trade and the manipulation of others as a means of ensuring their ascension to power.

Odysseus

WHO IS HE?

Shrewd and resourceful Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca, was a brilliant diplomat and trusted advisor to the kings of Achaea.

In his hour of need, Lord Agamemnon beseeched him to convince Achilles to re-join the war effort. A wise, battle-hardened commander who believed that the path to victory lay in stealth rather than direct confrontation, Odysseus was the mastermind behind the Trojan Horse, an ingenious stratagem that led to the downfall of the great city.

A formidable combatant, Odysseus preferred subterfuge and guerrilla tactics to defeat his opponents. He fired at his enemies from afar, wielding a mighty bow that only he could string. He was also an accomplished seaman and keen naval strategist; the general’s ten-year journey at sea following his victory against Troy is the subject of Homer’s second epic poem “The Odyssey”.


PLAYSTYLE


Many are the tools and tricks in the bag of the master strategist and fearless seafarer Odysseus, but two will be key for his success in the turmoil after Helen’s abduction:

Safe Havens is a mechanic that allows Ithacan spies to construct safe haven buildings in foreign settlements unbeknownst to their owners. Heroes serving Odysseus can then recruit armies in those foreign regions.


Coastal Mastery – Unique buildings are available for construction in coastal settlements only, while in land-locked settlements only the main building chain is available.
In addition, the Gift of the Greeks stratagem against Troy is only available to Odysseus to suggest, so using it requires him to be in your roster, one way or another.

START LOCATION

Silver-tongued Odysseus is wise and resourceful, but as king of rocky Ithaca he can’t yet compare with the other leaders of men in wealth or power.

Odysseus’s rule is questioned by the Teleboans – once obedient to the kings of Ithaca, they are now trying their fortune as sea raiders.

Beyond that, the oath of Tyndareus weighs over each of Helen’s suitors, who must decide whether to join in aid to defend Helen’s husband honour.

Choosing wisely between allies and confronting enemies will be key in navigating this precarious situation.



WHAT KIND OF PLAYER IS HE FOR?

Shrewd and resourceful Odysseus is for players who prefer to guerrilla warfare tactics to overpower their adversaries and expand their power across the coasts of the Aegean.

Nice discussion about cultures, tribes

I have rewatched some previews and I think these are cultures that we will see in Troy on day one:



It corresponds with what devs have said about cultures in game - that we will see 4 Greek tribes and 4 Anatolian ones.

Greek tribes are easy. Achaeans, Dorians, Ionians and Aeolians are known tribes that have inhabited Greece in the Bronze Age.

Anatolian tribes are harder to pick up. Trojans and Lycians are officialy confirmed. Thracians also seems to be in the game - but should we count them among Anatolian tribes? The same question goes for "Amazons" (Nomads?). There is also one unknown culture in the game (with more or less square symbol). In Aeanas preview, faction from that culture was allied to Trojans, so it might be another Anatolian tribe.

WHO IS HE?

Mighty warrior Aeneas had a rich lineage: he was thought to be the son of love goddess Aphrodite, the cousin of Priam and second only to Hector in military prowess among the allies of Troy.
According to Homer’s Iliad, when Aeneas faced certain death in battle, the gods interceded to spare his life. As lord of fertile and prosperous Dardania, he fought with honour and dignity, commanding a vast army to overwhelm his enemies on the battlefield.
The gods of Olympus may have had a greater destiny in mind when they chose to favour the Dardanian ruler. In the ‘Aeneid’, Virgil claims that the king and his men fled west after the Trojan War, settling in Italy where they became the progenitors of the Roman people. Aeneas himself was believed to be the ancestor of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome.

PLAYSTYLE

Legend says that Aeneas’s father, Anchises, met a beautiful Phrygian princess who might have been the goddess of love, Aphrodite herself, and the son she bore him was raised by the nymphs on Mount Ida.
Having been instructed at a young age in the mystical ways, Aeneas claims to read “Divine Omens” and interpret orders from the gods that he must carry out as missions in their name. By doing so, he will earn the favour of the Olympians.

Unique skills include Stygian Voices – Aeneas can beseech the spirits of dead heroes for advice and receive a variety of effects. By conquering regions holding ancient heroes’ tombs or sending contemporary epic heroes to Hades, you can expand the list of available spirits.

START LOCATION

Aeneas, the lord of the Dardanians starts at war with King Merops of the Aeolians, who have recently devastated the nearby region of Arisbe.
To the north, over a passage of water known as the Hellespont, another threat looms in the form of the Chersonessos, who seek to take control of the straits.
At least the south and west are secured by Aeneas’ Trojan cousins – beside the sacred springs of Scamandros, Hector rules wisely in the name of King Priam while his brother Paris holds the Aegean coast in check. In the western isles, another of Troy’s princes, god-touched Troilos, stands guard against hostile incursions to aid all seafarers.
Aeneas must his holdings first, and then aid his cousins against the imminent Achaean storm.

WHAT KIND OF PLAYER IS HE FOR?

Son of the love-goddess Aphrodite, Aeneas is an ideal hero for those who want to leverage the blessings of the Olympian gods themselves to aid their military prowess and statecraft.

This game looks like more like a small mod than a proper game to me. Even for free, im not gonna try it. I want medieval 3, and wont play anything else from CA. Last CA game that i bought was the first Warhammer, and nothing since then. Many mods here on TWC are much better imho than lots of CA games.
