Just saw an announcement from total war stateing that troy will be an epic exclusive game for 1 year.

Tweet above. I just wondered what other people thought about that. I'm certainly not upset about it but I do tend to prefer to keep all my games together especially ones of the same series of games. Will probably just end up waiting to get it in the end.

Absolute travesty, I'm guessing they had so little faith in the game they felt it was ok to whore themselves out to Epic for a year. Going to be a self fulfilling prophecy if this bombs like Britannia did.

EDIT: The lack of mod support seals the deal. Vanilla Total war games are never playable.

So Total War Saga: Troy release date trailer just came out and this is just supposed to be a discussion video for us Total War fans...do you care about the Epic Games 1 year deal? Will you still buy the game? I also read Creative Assembly's perspective on making this move. Let me know in the comments your thoughts.

CA support for ToB was like 6 months? Release date 2th May 2018 and last update was January 2019...It is possible the Troy will be out of support before hitting Steam...

So, release date is on August 13, which is closer to September than November, so I won and now Daruwind has to write three long negative critiques against Rome II, Throb and Warhammer. In all seriousness, this proves that November 2020 was never supposed to be the release date and that Troy was indeed delays for a couple of months, as the extended radio silence indicated. They originally planned a release probably around mid-spring. Pretty excited about the news, thanks to the unprecedented offer, Troy will be the first game I am going to purchase on day 1 since... ever. I understand the controversy the EGGS exclusivity caused, especially in what concerns the problematic or even outright impossible implementation of mods, but I frankly don't care much. From my personal perspective, games like Throb, Shogun and Troy are too minor to even worth the downloading of an ambitious overhaul, so I'll survive.

Meanwhile, I wholeheartedly enjoy the melt-down in reddit. Apparently, poor little TWC does not have the exclusive monopoly at whining, as common wisdom in social media claimed. The comments are full of aggressive insults against Creative Assembly, which would never be tolerated there, while the marketing team has largely disappeared for obvious reasons. Who knows, perhaps if they feel harassed by the irrational haters over in the newer platforms... My irony, sarcasm and vindictiveness aside, I genuinely understand the frustration over such shady deals, but, to be sincere, that's how I felt back in 2009, when Lord Gabe of Steam had gained the special privilege for Empire. The road to the future is not always decorated with rose petals for the consumer (that idiom must have sounded terribly in English).

Well I admit defeat. Year exclusivity on Epic explains so little traffic on Steam/SteamDB so technically I was right, that the Troy won´t release on Steam before November but who would imagine Epic. But in all seriousness I would pick 3K/Troy for critiques

This is definitely possible due to Epic´s money but hopefully makes no sense for Wh3. Wh3 as part of trilogy will heavily rely on Wh1/Wh2 and all DLCs/FLCs up to date to populate ME2.0

Plus all those other problems like Denuvo, No modding support, no cross play...I´m really really not sure Epic even for free can outweight it. For me, Epic is cancer and I simply have enough material to survive year without it. Anyway I must admit CA (or Sega?) found trully new way how to backstab the playerbase The main issue for me is that the info is coming out after so long time. This should be first piece of info...

Plus as the last point. Characters in trailers, they are are somehow off in my eyes... All of them...

Just saw this. I was just like nah bro, I'm good. I'll skip this title. Makes you wonder how much confidence they don't have in their game to do this. I swear to God though if this starts happening to mainline Total War releases like WH3. Nah, my Total War library is on Steam. They want to do this I'll skip them all.

I've got this great new idea for them - perhaps they could put the game on some sort of physical media which could be purchased in actual physical stores or from Amazon etc. Then the happy purchasers could also continue to play the game (and patch version of their choice) without relying on some secondary provider and internet connections.

It makes sense that Saga is perfect title to experiment. ToB was more on failure than success (initial sales) and hype for Troy so far was..almost none? So if Epic is paying bills, definitely for free they can handle some copies....

However no mods, no cross play, you have to buy it egain for Steam, denuvo....tell me single positive. There is none. Luckily they can hardly do it for Wh3. They either have to hand over for free Wh1+Wh2+all DLCs else nobody is moving there for Wh3 and mods...SFO and others won´t be happy.

Hopefully CA will see how this little experiment will fare...

I think, i will not buy it at release, mainly because i don't like the always extreme loud advertising of Epic.

And even the free copy at release is no motivation although i bought TW WH I for 0,50 cent at Christmas.^^

Agree that this is concerning for some reason. You come to enjoy the craftsmanship of TW and forget this is at bottom a big publicly traded company involved in casinos and pachinko parlors.
