Hi,
Today i release my "Navy Overhaul for all Factions" mod. It is a little bit older, but i have update the variantmeshfiles the last weeks to bring it more into line with my newer mods.
What does it change?
I. Every greek, hellenic, roman and punic melee-quinquereme or -tertere is now recuitable from port_military_2 / port_harbour_2. You have great battles earlier now.
II. I have create for EVERY slinger missile ship another peltast or archer ship, which should replace the slinger ships, because they are not historical accurate.
Reasons, why slinger ships are unrealistic:
-Historically ancient warships had a crew of rowers, sailors and marine soldiers, the latter mainly consisted of melee infantry with some archers or slingers.
-Slingers were the snipers of ancient times (at the battle of Cannae one of the consuls was killed at the start of the battle by a balearic slinger), but archers had had the advantage, that they could fire salves of arrows at the deck of the enemy ship to injure the rowers.
The AI will recruit my replacement units instead of the slingers ships as well.
Slingers ships remain only in garrisons (except my coming campaign mod).
III. I made special "Marines"-Units for every greek, hellenistic, roman and punic faction.
It is not immersive and historical accurate to fight against a carthagian fleet, which is manned with libyan javelinmen.^^
The marines or (greek) epibates/epibatoi mann mainly trieres, which was the main battleship of this time.
Some maritime factions have got bigger ships (eg. Penteres) with heavy marines.
These factions are Massilia, Rome. Syracuse, Karthago and the Ptolemaic Empire.
Athens, Macedon and Seleucid Empire have already heavy vanilla meleeship units.
The AI will recruit them too.
The units are based on Vanilla stats, only the marine units are stronger in melee.
This is a semihistorical, but historic plausible mod.
I tried to make it historical to my knowledge as possible.
You will an All factions playable-Mod to use this units by yourself.
Screenshots were made, while using ACR - Alii Colores Romae: Totus from Demokritos and NORMALMAP (decalmap) from CJiaBa. I recommend to use them for a better graphical experience.
