Much as with the prosecution's use of force type experts not doing well for the prosecution, the defense's force expert did not go so well for the defense, particularly when he said he did not consider the prone control hold 'force'.

Vandals Smear Chauvin Defense Witness’ Former Santa Rosa Home With Animal Blood

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — The former Santa Rosa home of Barry Brodd, who testified as a defense witness in the Derek Chauvin murder trial, was smeared with animal blood and had a severed pig’s head dumped on the front porch in an early Saturday morning vandalism attack.
    ...
The victim called police after they were awakened by a group of suspects — all dressed in black — who threw a pig’s head on their front porch and splattered blood on the front of their house and then fled.
    ...
Investigators believe the vandals thought that Brodd — a former Santa Rosa police officer — still lived at the residence but he has not been a Santa Rosa resident for a number of years.
“Because Mr. Brodd no longer lives in the city of Santa Rosa, it appears the victim was falsely targeted,” police said in a news release.

Oh well, that obviously means that Chauvin is innocent and that Floyd had it comin'.

Chauvin has been found guilty on all three charges.

    Time for the celebratory riots.
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

Sad day that a vital service like the Police force of a major US city has been dishonoured by this individual. I hope the elected officials in charge take steps to curb these sort of killings, and dismantle institutional racism by creating effective formal proceedings to address issues of race.

I'm no lawyer but some of the charges seem to directly contradict each other, and one of them can be merged into either of the other two.

The guilty verdict does not address systemic racism. It addresses Chauvin's technical failings as a police officer - and at a stretch the institution that made it possible for him to use a questionable technique in a poor way.

Floyd could have been of Chinese or Indian or Hungarian or Moroccan background for all that matters. And I can already see pundits lining up to single Chauvin out as a bad apple to protect the institution. Whether that plays out broadly enough to satisfy those who accuse the department (and the institution of policing in general) of systemic racism remains to be seen.

What institution? Anybody who remains a police officer in Minneapolis either took one too many hits to the head or should get a medal for courage in a hostile environment.

    Indeed, I think we agree.

My football club was recently castigated for its entrenched institutional racism. It actually didn't mean there's a KKK chapter in the backroom, it just meant there was no effective formal process to investigate and address specific instances of racism (also the club president had foot-in-mouth disease, quite another issue).

Maybe this Chauvin was just a killer, or racist killer. Not sure how we detect if he was motivated by racism, and how to reduce racist choices by individuals on the system. That's the challenge for the elected officials and police admin.

The system will decide justice is served and make no changes whatsoever, and the police will continue to be more bad apples than apples.

The world of men will continue to be more bad apples than good. Such is life. And now is the best it’s ever been by any reasonable metrics.

Yep, they just cannot stop killing. 16 year old Ma'Khia Bryant shot dead by police. She joins the list of kids who've been killed by police in the past month or so; including Adam Toledo, Peyton Ham, Anthony Thompson Jr., Judson Albahm, Iremember Sykap

That kind of resignation to the status quo is a touch weak.

There is nothing inherent in human behaviour that suggests that police need to regularly kill people in order to do their job effectively. The failing is cultural. And culture is in constant flux and can be intentionally changed.

I'm glad Chauvin will have to face the music, but this will change nothing. He was disposable anyway, a man dumb enough to commit murder in public, while being filmed.

Help me understand you in a way that doesn't make you look bad. The 16yo is attacking another black female that's presumably around her age with a knife. Your take on it is that they should have just let her? And your take is that we should just agree with that, given that your own link explains and shows us the video of how that happened?

What's the institutional racism in that incident?! That the guy responded to a call presumably made by the black girl in pink?

I'm setting aside the cringe of 16yo being described as kids.

But the legend says that pigs have tasers. At least that's what they claim. Also, 16 year olds are not adults.

Don't you know cookie? Black people can do no wrong. Floyd put a knife to a pregnant woman's stomach, but it's ok. He's a saint cause he was black. This girl tried to murder someone, and said she would. Criminal? Nope. Victim.

Judson Albahm pointed a BB gun specifically designed to look like a real one at a cops's head. Supid? Nope. He was slightly brown so hero.

Peton Ham did the same thing, and had a knife he was pointing at the cops while making threats. Also hero because skin color

Anthony Thompson Jr had a gun in school in threatened the cops with it after he abused his grlfriend. Monster? Nope. Angel of the innocent because he is black.

The only person on that list that did not pose a threat to the cops is Adam Toledo.

When you whore around facts like that to create a defensible position divorced from reality you're actually exposing how meritless your objection is.
