If he had given this speech a few years ago the Republicans would still be in control of Congress.

Awww, I missed it. I like watching speeches for educational value, but I had work to do. Its on the internet by now no doubt. I'll watch then deconstruct and analyze it.
Was anybody able to listen with the fascinating antics of Cheney and Pelosi going on in the background?
Cheney was laughing during George's bit about alternative energy/smirking/reaching under the table/eating something?/giving evil glares to people on the floor.
Pelosi was blinking her eyes as though a strobe light was in her face/chewing her dentures/sticking her tongue out/reading something? Way better than having Hastert sit there like a beached whale.
We also saw the Senator from Arizona appearing to doze off or play a gameboy. What great poitical theatre.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Bush's accidental boob grab when he was attempting to hold Pelosi's elbow and she tried to shake his hand after the speech. Frickin' hilarious if you ask me.

ROFL. OMFG, I thought I was going a tad bit crazy when I noticed that! Glad to know that someone else saw it.Pelosi was blinking her eyes as though a strobe light was in her face/chewing her dentures/sticking her tongue out/reading something?
And yes, Manstein, I do believe that had he given this level of quality speech earlier that the Republicans would still be in control. Not to say that he's the most articulate president we've ever had (yes, that's sarcasm), but that was definitely one of his better speeches.
Anybody think that Bush's newfound english language talents might have something to do with the elections? "Democrats like smart, me talk smart" And when all he cared about were conservatives he talked real slow so he appeared "plain spoken"? Maybe that's just a crazy theory but hey.
Anyways, about the speech. I didn't watch it all. I started hearing all this, sorry, bull feces about "we can eliminate the deficit without raising taxes. All we have to do is be disciplined about spending". I mean seriously, I'm supposed to sit around and listen to G.W. talk about fiscal responsibility, from the guy who brought us the biggest public debt in the history of this country? From the guy who thought taxs cuts during a war were a good idea? And don't get me started about his Health Care section....
I watched it. Bush talked trash about Burma and Belorus. No joke.
I missed it because of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. I have three school-less days ahead on which to watch the news though; so I'll catch up with the important parts.
Watching the Canadian parliament around 3:00 pm is funny - the cabinet and shadow cabinet harass each other and the PM during Question time, while the members in the back seats eat potato chips and play PSPs and Gameboys. Wow, so involved and productive.![]()
I thought is was a very good speech. But I wish he talked with a bit more passion about the US enconomy, Its doing extremely well right now if you look at unemployment rates, wall street, and GDP growth.
My favorite quote of the night, "You did not vote for failure". With that I hope Democrats and Republicans realize that Iraq deserves another chance.

I had far better things to do than listen to anything that pathetic waste of life has to say. Feed my cats for example.
Wow, you really love your cats! more important than the state of the union?

ive seen snippets but not the whole thing. I was surprised though. I thought it was going to go more like:
"My feloow americans, the state of the union is........well, its ok. it aint great but(bush smirk) we aint in a civil war like Irack is. hehehe. I mean, like when teddy roosevelt was fightin the north and the injuns back in 1648, wait, or was it 1848? ah it dont matter. I just get confused some times. like all those stans over in the middle east. Kazakstan, pakistan, uzbekiwhatchamacallitstan. Jeez i almost invaded kazakstan yesterday cause i saw bo-rat. I was makin fun of the US. But I couldn't find it and my advisors would tell me. Ah heck - Ill just invade I-ran and show that president alla, umm, albej, umm ill show president iran whose boss here.
Definitely satirical and over the top but i could picture it in my head.

What I could gather on the news G.Bush Jr says he will get Iraq sorted out which isn't anything new.
The big news is that he IS going to talk global warming; a figure of 20% on the reliance of petrol over 10 years was put about, which can hopefully be achieved by his successor. Well don George I knew you would see sense.![]()
I didn't watch it, now I regret not watching it.
I had better things to do though, like drink and chase women....what a horible life I lead.

I would be very surprised if the next president is a Dem. At the moment the Democrats have yet to put forth a moderate candidate with a chance of winning(Hillary Clinton is anything but and she's leading the pack; Obama is more so but he's a freshman senator and black so history is working against him). The two Republican front-runners, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, are known for their moderate and bipartisan stances. I have a hunch (and I very well could be wrong) that the American people don't want to trade one extremist nut for another extremist nut.
