It really doesn't matter what some other AG did in the past. That's another conversation. What we're talking about is what Sessions did when he was in the hot seat.
He suspected that he might be involved in something his subordinates were investigating. Either he stays and oversees an investigation potentially into himself, or he steps aside from it to allow a full investigation that might clear him without any accusations of corruption.
Is there anything else to it?
