I come from an old throne of France,
My sword did make enemies tremble,
    At first only a lamb,
    I shattered the foe,
    and then shattered myself,
    like the youthful Alexander,
    with that ancient walled city,
gazing down upon my shattered corpse
    and with my demise,
    so too did it fall,
the entire hope of the nation.

    Who am I?

    WTF I met all requirements
I come from an old throne of France,->descendant of King Robert II of France
My sword did make enemies tremble,->he wacked some enemies early on and had a very strong army
At first only a lamb,->ye he started young but also look at his shiny necklace
I shattered the foe,->battle of Montlhery
and then shattered myself,->battle of Nancy
like the youthful Alexander,->meh, Alexander never got shattered
    with that ancient walled city,->Nancy
gazing down upon my shattered corpse->Nancy
    and with my demise,
    so too did it fall,
the entire hope of the nation.->Burgundy getting rekt not long after his death.

You deserve some rep just for finding this fitting candidate. Maybe the riddle is underdetermined?
"Non i titoli illustrano gli uomini, ma gli uomini i titoli." - Niccolo Machiavelli, Discorsi
"Du musst die Sterne und den Mond enthaupten, und am besten auch den Zar. Die Gestirne werden sich behaupten, aber wahrscheinlich nicht der Zar." - Einstürzende Neubauten, Weil, Weil, Weil

On an eternal crusade for reason, logics, catholicism and chocolate. Mostly chocolate, though.

I can heartily recommend the Italian Wars mod by Aneirin.
In exile, but still under the patronage of the impeccable Aikanár, alongside Aneirin. Humble patron of Cyclops, Frunk and Abdülmecid I.

I was not thinking of Nancy. Which does not imply ancient as far as I'm aware.

The lamb is not the necklace, he is the lamb.

Also the wording. He came from A throne, not THE throne.

Vercingetorix doesn't match any of the points.

has me thinking of places further east. So I am onto crusaders now. What about Baldwin I? I feel like he doesn't quite meet some things, but for others he seems a good lock.

Baldwin IV is a much better match than Baldwin I

Her matches all of them except maybe the second to last and third to last when taken together unless by France you mean medieval France starting with the Merovingians and not the entire history of France

I come from an old throne of France, - chieftain of the Avernii and chieftain of the Gallic Confederation. check.
My sword did make enemies tremble, - check
At first only a lamb, - he assumed the throne in his late 20s. So check.
I shattered the foe, - battle of Gergovia. check
and then shattered myself, - moved to Alesia after Gergovia. check
like the youthful Alexander, - as young as Alexander. check. Gave Caesar pause. Check. Was literally seen as Gallic Alexander by some romans.
with that ancient walled city, - Alesia was both ancient and walled. check
gazing down upon my shattered corpse - he was wounded at Alesia and captured, chained and had work done on him by the romans. check
and with my demise, - he ded. check
so too did it fall, - Alesia fell. check.
the entire hope of the nation. - the last hope of an independent Gaul died with Vercingetorix. check.

    1. Then I would have just said Gaul instead of France.
    2. Vercingetorix didn't shatter anything, he won a minor victory at Gergovia and then got completely btfo. Also I never said that my guy was defeated, just that he died. Which is more comparable to Alexander.
    3. You can't really say for sure how old Vercingetorix was. I doubt he was seen as a Gallic Alexander, no offense but that sounds made up.
    4. Alesia was not really a city, more of an oppida really. At least it isn't what I would first think of when I think of ancient city. It also wasn't that ancient when it happened. The city in question ought to be ancient when the event happened.
    5. He didn't die at Alesia though.
    6. I'm pretty sure that you know it isn't Vercingetorix and are trying to meme that it is Vercingetorix.

Nope. Maybe it is kind of close though. In geography at least it is somewhat close.

I will give you a hint then. It isn't a Crusader.

Another hint: it didn't happen in Ancient times.

I come from an old throne of France,>dynasty dated back to 10th century. You already specified that throne didn't mean king, so count is good enough.
My sword did make enemies tremble,>Simon de Montfort was extremely successful militarily as well as cruel.
At first only a lamb,>his actions (or refusal of actions) during the 4th crusade at age 24.
I shattered the foe,>his victories, including at Muret.
and then shattered myself,>HE LITERALLY GOT SHATTERED BY A STONE FROM A MANGONEL!
like the youthful Alexander,>Died at the height of his success.
    with that ancient walled city,>Toulouse/Tolosa
gazing down upon my shattered corpse>yup, that stone got hurled from there.
    and with my demise,
    so too did it fall,
the entire hope of the nation.>His son lost the county of Toulouse again and his other son came to institute the first English parliament, an even worse feat.

Anyway, this is the second time I fulfilled everything and my interest is gone. A good riddle should have only one or two possible answers.

It is neither. Henry V didn't even die in battle.

Is there any kind of hint you could give, Oda? We know it's in France (or thereabouts). Would you be able to give us a timeframe, or would that give it away too much?
