Thread: And now for something different - 8 Values.

Default And now for something different - 8 Values.

We've had one political compass test, yes, but what about second political compass test? To be fair that is different and I think better than the political compass test. I don't know if this has been posted before, but it was all new stuff to me.

Too many questions too vague to allow proper answer, so it should be taken with a grain of salt the size of Everest.

    Just to show...

The values are about 10% or more off for me in all categories, but many questions didn't allow proper answer and were bundling several problems on which I have different stance together...

Again like all survays the questions often forced you a binary choice - pushing the results one way or the other.

It seems a bit too biased. Too much "World good, nation bad" and "Equality good, Markets bad".

Yeah I was frustrated on a few of them too, for example I think the pseudo abortion questions group the pro life response as authoritarian and not liberty index related. I don't think this test is perfect but I do like it better than the political compass test

No test that calls me a Trump supporter is a correct test!

How "Centrist" and "Patriotic" ends up as "Right wing populist, you Trump supporting redneck scum"?

The values are not off! I could tell you that myself. Even though I would put me as more traditionalist.
But they are not what right wing populist means!

    Closest Match - Neo Liberal.

I think the kicker were questions like, I'm just remembering "Should children be taught traditional values".

I think they should be taught them but not forced to follow them. I'm teaching Christianity to my child because I think its important, but he's been brought up without religion and is a natural atheist like his father.

The national/global stuff was a bit weak too. Its like you can have a strong national feeling and still think globaly too.

About the only one that I think is pretty valid would be the market one.

    This should help.

But do you really think you know what a Trump supporter is?

Well, you are close to a neoliberal from what I have seen. A bit too anti-market for Neoliberal IMO, but it is pretty close.

    Neoliberal stuff in your post:
"I think they should be taught them but not forced to follow them."
"I'm teaching Christianity to my child because I think its important, but he's been brought up without religion"

    Aaaand this too:
"Its like you can have a strong national feeling and still think globaly too."

So, I simply had you wrong. You are a neoliberal.

If I may, what would YOU call yourself? Don't get so hung up on the percentages, just about the labels.

Well from where I stand, from debating with you for the past 10 years or so... I would call you progressive not very progressive despite disagreeing with many of your views the tradition/progress stuff and a bit less internationalist than what the poll shows. The rest are spot on.

I'm a libertarian, first and foremost, economically and politically centrist leaning a bit right. But I don't like labels, I'm all over the spectrum depending on specific issue.

The value of these tests isn't in their accuracy, but in comparisons. It doesn't matter how well they get the definition of "liberal" so long as it reliably categorizes liberals as more liberal than conservatives who take the test. Personally, I always find these tests fun. It's quite entertaining, imo.

This place is CRAWLING with progressives. If you are 60% progressive, I start to dislike you...

Obviously the tests are US-centric, and a lot of the questions are frankly meaningless to an Australian. I came out as +/- 5 from straight down the centre on every track on the 9axes because the simplistic binary (and sometimes actually garbled) questions did not warrant strong or even moderate response beyond neutral/don't care.

That's actually a bit weird because compared to the US we are a much more centrist state (the Feds dominate the states in most issues), much more socialist (higher taxes, free healthcare etc) less religious (including fringe religions, anti-vaxxers and wiccans) and much more multicultural (albeit with harder borders and similar levels of racism).

Its just the proposed questions are not burning ones and the default settings (a lot further to the notional "left" of most of the US) are less contested so they provoke a lower response.

An Australian version would have more questions about fossil fuels, Indigenous rights and multiplateral international relations. We currently balance a relationship with our number 1 customer China and the only country that could invade us, the US. The current policy is "friends with both, allies with one".
