Masterfully indeed. You could feel the vibrations of my impotent rage all across the Atlantic, as I humiliated myself having to do research online.
The only thing I can realistically come up with is Half-Life: Decay, a PS2 title I was not even aware of.

Okay, this might be a another case of a well-known phenomenon. When games looked really good for their time, we remember them looking better overall than they did. Perhaps this is in fact Black Mesa; Half-Life is not that advanced graphically.
Edit: yes, that actually would explain why the shotgun and the reticule look so different from what I remember.
