    Default killing routing enemies: HOW?

pursuing routing enemies in M2TW is a pain in the ass imo. Often my cav spreads out in every direction, they just walk alongside the routing enemies, they are stuck in the middle if there are two groups of units from the same unit, they charge but stop just before they will hit them...

I always have to manually control my pursuing cavalry by clicking in front of the group that's routing, and when they are all mixed right click to attack, to kill them. Off course sometimes it works just fine, but can someone plz tell me how i can properly kill routing foes? I'm using darth mod v1.3

i don't think we can kill routing enemies like we did in rtw .
in mtw2 we actually capture the routing units as prisoner of wars and release /ransom /execute them after Battle is over

Lol i know that but thats irrelevant here. to take routing units as prisoners, you have to 'kill' them on the battlefield (at least they all look dead to me). my question is: how can I kill (or capture if you want to call it like that) routing units without my pursuing units acting all weird?

    thx

Pursuing routed units is part of the cavalry charge bug. Try selecting the cavalry unit and double clicking at a point ahead of the routing unit. Your cav should double time it to the location and if they encounter the enemy along the way, they will start swinging.

They don't exactly attack the routing units on the way to their destination. What I do is attack an enemy unit that is far ahead of the rest of the routers and double right click on them. Your cavalry should attack all troops along the way to reaching that unit.

Yes they do. It's my fave coup de main tactic. Works everytime.

They don't for me. My cavalry units just bypass the enemy while heading towards their destination unless you specifically tell them to attack the routing units.

Unfortunately, there is no other way but manually. It is a pain and that's why I don't care for it anymore. Kill as much as possible, then when the routing unit is small (about 10 men) go for others or just end the battle.

I've found that light cavalry are much more effective than heavy cavalry for routing (especially with the LTC mod). So first of all, use them for best routing. Secondly, line up your units before charging. Once the first charge runs into the group your cavalry become instant idiots and start walking around while the enemy runs away. Once your first charge takes down 70% of the enemy unit, run behind them a good distance, line up in a long row of 2, and then charge again. This usually results in 2 quality routing charges that take down most of the units. Afterwards you'll have about 4 or 5 annoying units running around that are near impossible to target with your cavalry, even when used manually.

Haha! I always have trouble with this. Right when their about to attack the routing enemies, they turn around. ****ing pisses me off.

What happens is the longer a unit spends time chasing a single routing unit the more spread out they become. I have had a single (yes one) unit of armoured sergeants spread out over half the battlefield at the end of a battle. You could send two formations 20-man wide through the gaps inbetween each man in that unit.

I prefer just to attack them on a loose formation on my knights and look to other things in the battle.

Glad I wasn't the only one annoyed with this. It's so frustrating when you are trying to pick units off near the red line to only see your units just stop and stand there. Atleast they could make it seem planned by having your unit commander say "no, we will not obey that order" or something along those lines.

Most frustrating for me is that it takes longer to chase down a few stragglers at the end of a battle (especially if they are cursed by the split routing unit issue) than it does to fight the actual battle itself! Something not right there :hmmm:

What I do is I tell my knights to aim for a piece of land that is ahead of the routing troops. When the knights get mixed with the routing troops en route to their destination, I tell them to suddenly charge the mixed up enemy. I get a LOT of kills, er, prisoners, that way.

I do this every battle, and it works wonders for me.

This issue has resulted in a lot of cussing at my home. What's even worst is routing AI reinforcements in a city/castle assault can't be enaged in melee at all. Light cavalry does seem to do better. It also appears that attacking from behind causes the most problems so if possible, I'll run my cavalry way in front and then charge back at them to meet them head on.

Just realize that your men are drooling, brainless, automatons without your enlightened guidance. Treat them as such, and you shall have victory...and lots of prisoners...

Of course that's what they are! It's only AI!
