Unless China can snap Taiwan without public havoc,deaths....probably via some technocratic policies it won´t happen. Invasion would be bloody one way or another, people will fight and internet will be full of pictures. China hate how now the public image is being damage due to Corona. Imagine storm after seizing Taiwin forcefully.
If China manage to get hold in similar way like Hong Kong, then yes. Slowly change policies, install police force, security, cut of internet....tada you did it!
Saying that Taiwan isn't chinese makes about as much sense as saying Austria isn't german. Republic of China is the official name of the island state that was the retreat of the losing side of the chinese civil war, the chinese nationalist Kuomintang. The taiwanese who don't consider themselves chinese and want to invent their own identity are a minority.
I doubt invasion is on the agenda, but PRC threatens the separatists(DPP) of Taiwan. Red China made it clear that independence is unacceptable to them.
I know the history of Taiwan. What is unclear is what you are trying to say here. Is it that it would be OK if Germany invaded and took possession of Austria because Austrians are ethnically German?
Your saying that the majority of people in Taiwan want to be called Chinese. Fine, no problem. Just remember that the majority of people on the island elected by a wide margin a leader who is fiercely against reunification with the mainland.

Somewhat breathless reporting there. "Huge" I believe the word thay wanted small - spell check is always stabbing you in the back

Easy play for both governments. Its ridiculously difficult to fight a war a those altitudes and terrain. Just getting troops acclimatized take something like 2 weeks. The logistics are crap and everything from aircraft and helicopters to trucks and tanks have degraded performance. But little skirmishes likely just give both governments a nationalist distraction in the news.

But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join together at the latter day and cry all 'We died at such a place; some swearing, some crying for surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left.

Hmmm, I guess "huge" has become a trigger word. Truly strange times we are living in.

Don't disagree with any of this. There are some bigger factors at play here; disputed territory, a strategically valuable area, the strange cohesion of China and Pakistan (both with border disputes against India), etc.
Can you clarify both together do not have an air wing that Taiwan could not sweep from the sky with land based craft. They are if China goes forward the basis for training a CV navy (although they seem to throttled that back a bit). Its a nice show but I doubt anyone in Taiwan is worried about big targets.Hmmm, I guess "huge" has become a trigger word. Truly strange times we are living in.
Trigger word how. Its no more than being annoyed when stories describe a light APC as a Tank. Neither Chinese CV is huge they are at best escort CVs. That is all thay are they a very limited sortie rate and maintenance capacity and cannot field a full range of aircraft you would expect but some second rate strike fighters and some helos (and a small number of both)

LOL hate to break it you keyboard warriors but India's leaders-barring the unemployed indian twitter trolls- have determined that war with China would be disastrous; even India's 'Trump' had to back down. Hell, even the OG Trump always backs down when it's China because China is the OG Superpower.

Sounds like wishful thinking on your part; i've read nothing in the literature to indicate China is doing anything other than building and implementing a full carrier based navy.
Also, you're evidently misinformed if you think Taiwan's air force can match the PLAAF, considering how compromised the taiwan military is (most are even reunification proponents from the KMT)- it's actually the reason why the Pentagon doesn't want to sell the F-35 to taiwan. The first ROC Air Force pilot to fly the F-35 will simply defect and land it on the mainland for Chinese intelligence to pore over.
In response to this thread, yes there will be war coming only it won't be between China and anyone else other than the United States. The only nation that should be concerned with an actual war with China should be the United States because quite frankly, time is on China's side especially given the hysterical reaction by America's leaders to try to start a war now.
These are people, mind you, who are so pathetic that they're going cap in hand to beg europeans not to 'trade with China' citing white supremacy as a schelling point, because continual trade with china not only makes Europe rich but also puts money in China's Treasury to build missiles and bullets to murder white american occupying forces.
India is trying to save face if anything. India is building up roads and bridges so they can actually station a large force on the LOC with China. Right now China has the superior force there. That won't last very long though especially now.
China's air force isn't that great. It can't even fly its planes fully loaded off of its carriers because they decided to base it off a crap prototype. Rest of its inventory isn't much better. It does possess some good aircraft, but not in significant numbers while none of its current pilots have any combat experience compared to other nations.
LOL they can try; it really says something that a hindu nationalist like Modi had to sit down, shut the up when China started lifting an eyebrow, the way a Guantanamo Bay prisoner starts shaking and crying when a CIA torturer start lifting their eyebrow.

Fact is, America's power is waning and China's power is growing and more to the point, China today can easily dominate the entire first island chain; by the next decade this domination can be pushed to the second island chain. By the decade after that we can expect to see Chinese carrier groups off the Hamptons reminding the pizza party 1%ers who run America that radiation and shrapnel can just as easily be democratised.
Try? They can do much more than that.

Gotta love the Russians; of course they're ornery, they're going to be losing a long term customer in the PLA as Chinese tech dominates.
Btw, a personal opinion, and an opinion from a disgruntled ex supplier just aint gonna cut the mustard i'm afraid.
Not only have you failed to provide proof to your claim:
but you have also failed to take note of the latest news and development, which is that not even the Pentagon thinks you guys can win in a conflict with China.China's air force isn't that great. Think we have military primacy over China? Think again.

Even the SCMP reports the faults of the J-15 and how China is looking to replace it. Guess thats what happens when you copy a prototype and not the real thing.
Be more specific. There's two claims there. China hasn't fought a war since the Sino-Vietnamese war so its obvious China has no modern experience in air to air combat. Not only have you failed to provide proof to your claim:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List..._Army_aircraft
China has what? Almost 400 J-11s and 100 other various modern aircraft including J-15. So around 500 4th gen or better aircraft. Thats pretty small.
Tell that to the american christian fundamentalists in the current administration (pompeo is an evangelical christian) and the racial holy warriors (Bannon is a white supremacist) who would rather see the world burn than see america lose primacy.
In about a decade or less, the Chinese economy will surpass the US economy; in 5-10 years China will have military primacy in the Asia-Pacific; old white anglo males in the anglo sphere would rather young men and women die to defend their white privilege.
Please address the concerns of your own white american Generals in the Pentagon. Then we can have a real discussion.
