Nice. What kind of equipment was Al-andalus using in this time period?

They use a hybrid of muslim and christian equipment with their own unique spin on them. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they turn out

Starting to put the whole thing together for an alpha test, after that has been polished up we will go forward with a playable beta test that everyone can try out:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

All factions will start with solid core of their elite unit to replicate the bodyguard army of the faction leaders:

This is a preview of the recruitment system. You will be able to recruit levy level units in the normal total war fashion. However, to get heavily armed and armored units we have appropriated the mercenary tab to show how difficult they were to train and arm. If you lose your armored core you will be in big trouble. In addition the mercenary tab allows for armies to wield a variety of historically accurate foreign contingents that make armies feel more real in composition. There is no longer building and technology based recruitment that gives the player an edge over the AI factions. Now everyone gets the same units and battles are much more meaningful and actually quite thrilling (like they should be):

Wow,those unit cards are truly beautiful. Will the Romans have full access to their thematic and tagmatic troops? I know southern Italy was one of the border regions of the Roman Empire during the early middle ages, but from time to time Imperial expeditions would be mounted to defend the area or gain control of lombard or muslim territories.

Ya for the byzantine empire, or catepanate of italy, since we are starting in 1051 they will be embroiled in a war for survival with the normans and will use a mixture of skututoi, varangians, local greeks, italians and lombards in addition to which ever tagmatic troops are most likely to be available. Since there were quite sizable populations of greeks living in southern italy and certain areas of sicily they will also be a rebel faction that "calls" for imperial assistance and therefore has access to the higher level byzantine troops.

In the future we would also like to look into adding in scripted invasions like in TOB, so hopefully if we can do this there will be large byzantine invasion forces spawning from time to time in the mediteranean.

1051 Invasion of Hungary by Emperor Henry III:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Bela the duke of hungary and his brother king andrew have to repel the massive hosts of the hre in this starting war. Also have a faction dilemma that pops up if your brother dies and you can try and claim the throne for yourself. The HRE on the other hand also has a different but possibly more challenging starting situation in that they need to carefully manage all their vassals. If your too aggressive you might suddenly find yourself surrounded by enemies.

Starting to playtest the campaigns. Did a battle from the HRE invasion of Hungary. Here you can see units, formations, overall battle lines. Battle balance worked pretty well, I went in overly confident with more soldiers than the AI and I lost pretty badly. Main thing is to have it so that you cant take things for granted and small mistakes on the player's part can be exploited to give the victory to the AI:

Thanks, its still very wip. I'll make something similar when we release the first beta.

Also thinking of doing a stream or something where I do a play through of a campaign. Were still working pretty heavily on it but might be a fun way of showing wip stuff

Well there was the duke of hungary, Bela the Boxer, who had his own lands but was a vassal to his brother and the king of hungary, Andrew the White. Bela eventually went on to take the throne for himself through a civil war so I've made him a playable faction with a scripted dilemma to decide whether or not to start a civil war and become the king of hungary.
