Angelina Jolie Slams G.W.Bush

Angelina Jolie has hit out at US President GEORGE W BUSH, accusing him of turning the world against America.

Jolie, who spends much of her time travelling the world helping the poor as an ambassador for the United Nations, insists her work has become harder since Bush was re-elected - because no-one she meets can understand why Americans voted for him.

She says, "When I travel, people feel uncomfortable when I say I'm American. They think it's suspicious that I want to do something positive for them.

"I think they wonder why the American people re-elected a President who is making foreign policy choices that are affecting other countries in a way that we should question."

Regardless, whether or not she is a celebrity, she is right.

I think it's suspicious too, but not because she is an American.

More specifically I always wonder how much of their personal money those Celebrities-turned-Mother-Teresa put into their "cause", and how much is just them abusing poverty and the suffering of others to raise their own market value.

Does it make any difference to the ones receiving their aid, if it is hypocritical and self-serving or not?

It does matter if they get their hopes up on camera, and then get left empty handed once the camera's are gone.

Notice that the function of "ambassador" involves much talk and photo ops, but very little action.

Any evidence this happens?

Not saying I believe all Hollywood types are saints, but there are easier ways to get publicity than lying about helping needy people.

Especialy when you consider the back lash that would result when that is found to be what is hapening, if indeed it is mind you.

You are right, aid is aid.

But I am wondering how much of her "work" is actual aid.
She is an "ambassador of the UN", which can mean a lot of things but AFAIK ambassadors don't get their hands dirty.

The poorest people in the world need things like food, clothing, building materials, medicine, a source of clean drinking water, education etc. etc.
Flying your private helicopter from village to village doesn't make these things magically pop out of the ground.

My father happens to do (real) work for aid in Africa.
And never have I heard a story like "We couldn't find the funds to build that hospital, but then celebrity such-and-such came along and then we suddenly did"
I think I heard him talk optimistic about Bono (U2) one time, but that's about it.

Celebrity opinions are no more valid than some random dude off the street.

I wish people would stop thinking they were more important or newsworthy.

Well for me aid is aid, if you help people in order to gain a good reputation and further your goals or help them to just feel good makes no difference to me or the people you help.
And I dont really think that someone as famous for philanthropy as Jolie would get away that easily by faking it. Paparazzi would tear her apart for that, dont think it is worth the risk anyway.

Angelina Jolie is completely right, but its sad that shes the one who gets the press for pointing out the obvious. Thank you dr. Jolie, whered you get your phd, homewrecker college? za-zing!

But shes right, Bushs foreign policy has turned the world against america. But the scarier thing is that many americans dont really care what the world thinks of america, in true traditional american fashion. My sentimental, traditional half admires their unshakable resolve but the more liberal, openminded half of me realizes that america is a global power, and Bush doesnt realize that as a president he addresses the world, and not only the U.S.

like when Bush says "Well fight them there so we dont have to fight them here" third world countries everywhere go "Oh %$^& we're getting bombed!"

"Moral of story, Angelina Jolie...great ass...great body but why we should care about her views on things leaves me scratching my head."

well, people like to hate on pop culture icons/celebrities. Always have, always will. Even when they try to do good. Even when they say something sensible. Like when Bill Cosby broke his decades long streak of staying silent on political issues, everyone went Oooh...no the Jell-O/pudding man shouldnt be saying these controversial things...
