Above-mentioned shows that WHO was aware from Taiwan about the extent of the outbreak... only to lie about no human-to-human transmission in January, which was beyond simple incompetence and de-facto sabotage of international response on behalf of China's communist government trying to cover up its blunder. As the saying goes: China lied, WHO complied and people died.

This is what happens when you prioritize Trumpcoping over the national interest. Don't worry, you're not alone.
Indeed, one can hate Trump's policies, I do myself dislike some of them, but opposing defunding of WHO is nothing but raging TDS at this point.

According to... what? Only rational way to make a comparison is case/capita, and in that regard US isn't doing that bad, at least if compared to many other Western nations. I mean there are reasons to criticize Trump's response as well, but compared to Trudeau or Macron(who refused to close borders or quarantine people who arrived because that would be racist), he actually knew what he was doing.

A question if you please. China issues aside... Is the work that the WHO does around disease prevention in the third world... on fighting Ebola etc... other non COVID stuff valuable? Asking for a friend.

The article you mentioned doesn't say that.

"The World Health Organization is under fire after Taiwan released the contents of a December email inquiring about the person-to-person spread of COVID-19, which it says was ignored by the organization and further denied to provide adequate information about how to fight the virus.

Taiwan is accusing WHO of downplaying the severity and spread of the coronavirus in an attempt to pander to China, even after Taiwan sounded the alarm about at least seven cases of atypical pneumonia that they were aware of in Wuhan, where the virus originated."

Taiwan's vigilance and immediate actions paid off, which is good, but they did not know about the full extent of the virus because they couldn't have. The virus didn't originate in Taiwan nor did Taiwan have access too all of the information to even make a fully informed recommendation.

Indeed, one can hate Trump's policies, I do myself dislike some of them, but opposing defunding of WHO is nothing but raging TDS at this point.

The WHO is a critical lynchpin in global health. Replacing it in its entirety would take many years.

Now seriously, standards of debate are pretty low here, but this is what happens when you manage to to sink under them.

Except that if WHO wasn't shilling for marxist China, it wouldn't have any reason to wait for months to warn the world of danger that it was aware of in December.

As a matter of fact, now we know that WHO is not a lynchpin in global health, as it didn't perform any of the duties of such and instead sabotaged international response only contributing to severity of the pandemic. I guess the lesson to learn from this is that it is not wise to put trust in international organizations on serious matters. So perhaps instead of creating another UN-based organization and pampering its officials with billions, such funds better be spent on infrastructure and domestic healthcare.

Hmm, Breitbart is saying that Black males are the biggest threat of spreading the virus, isn't it outrageous?

Which WHO work? Last time I checked all they did was praising socialist China and saying virus is nothing to worry about... until they declared it a pandemic after CDC already did so and it was already raging in Europe. So what important work was WHO doing? Please try and answer that question without buzzwords and ad hominems.

Without buzzwords and ad hominems, WHO's current work is outlined on their website, in the About us tab, under programmes.

    https://www.who.int/entity/en/

They outline their work in many fields. Such as the recent Ebola outbreak in central Africa and their work on Echinococcosis in Argentina.

I understand you're focusing on Chinese influence with the WHO, and I don't dispute this. My issue is that simply defunding the organisation acomplishes two things, it reduces your influence in that organisation, thus reducing your ability to right that imbalance, and it reduces the organisations ability to enact positive change in other areas where there is no China issue. To quote my lovely prime minister and good Trump friend, Scott Morrison, it is "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"

WHO's work doesn't consist of making Twitter announcements. Visit their website, you might learn something.

Given how it was predominantly funded by US, the question we should be asking is what was WHO doing for American taxpayers who were funding it, other then causing deaths tens of thousands of them by sabotaging international response to the pandemic and preventing timely border closures and other measures that should have been taken months before WHO finally got around to admitting that this is a pandemic.
When it comes to other health concerns around the world, Nations of Africa and South America aren't really forbidden from funding them if they chose to do so. I mean as long as they have a list of regimes that WHO would shill for and not do anything about real health hazards that come from them, that is.

There are two components to funding for the WHO, there's voluntary funding, and mandated funding. The mandated component is worked out by the UN and based on population and economy size, and the voluntary part is well... voluntary. The US pays so much because it chooses to, and because diseases don't respect borders - so it's better value for American taxpayers to fight Ebola in Africa and Echinococcosis in Argentina rather than Alabama - as we're seeing, American taxpayers can die from diseases created overseas.

And while the US is the biggest single contributor, it is by no means it's only major contributor. Just the only one that now openly insists that it's taxpayers deserve special treatment.

Edit: sorry did I say US, I meant Trump's America. They're two different places.

USA provides little under 20% of WHO's two-yearly budget. That's not exactly what predominantly would indicate.

If the current pandemic is teaching us something, it is that international bodies are rather useless and buckle under slightest real challenge. So in the near future, it is a good time to review not only WHO, but UN's existence as well.
Of course you can label Americans not dying by tens of thousands because WHO lied and helped China cover up the outbreak a "special treatment", whatever it is supposed to mean, but from domestic perspective only a complete sociopath would want to fund an organization that caused deaths of more of his country's citizens then any recent war or terrorist attack.
Also US is Trump's America, as American people elected Trump to be their president, proving to be more politically mature and educated. Good on them, as now we know how it would have been much worse if Democrats were in power.

You've also just invalidated my argument that the defunding would be devastating for the WHO's other programs.

It would make for a clean removal of international influence for Trump's America to be replaced by China (or whoever else wanted it) as the major funder.

I think you'll find that the electoral college voted mature and educated Trump in. But I do like that nickname for him.

So have American conservatives on this site begun to reconcile themselves to reality yet? That is, the necessity of a single payer system, and massive debt abolition? I dont understand how that already myopic and ridiculous anti government pro market perspective could possibly survive this disaster. The economic impact alone of simply helping those who are sick, due to the perversity of americas system--and the moral impact ofc-- is astounding. It should be an open and shut case.

I await some rambling incoherence from Phier and co.

I grow tired of answering this point. Everybody (news outlets, politicians, medical professionals etc.) is guilty of issuing "contradictory statements" because the virus was, and continues to be, misunderstood. That's why so many countries were unprepared for it and why the medical advice we were getting in January was starkly different to what we were getting in March. I even went out of my way to illustrate how officials in NY (including medical officials) had seemingly flip-flopped on the advice they were offering as events unfolded. So this idea - or expectation - that Trump should've had a crystal ball is silly.

Lack of knowledge on electoral system in US in your posts isn't the subject of this thread. Like I said, Americans dodged the bullet by electing Trump. Democrat administration would probably call acknowledging the pandemic racist, their media would label people who defined it as pandemic as "conspiracy theorists", the usual stuff.

Citation needed. You got two whole pandemics/epidemics (neither of which shut down the economy) from the previous administration to cite so surely you have some evidence of "the usual stuff"?

"You can't discuss electoral system of a country if you never physically traveled there." it is funny how almost every ORANGE MAN BAD narrative lacks logic and substance.

We have current rendition of Democrats demanding public attendance of crowd events, and encouraging public to "not be afraid". That's pretty bad and it is not surprising that areas where Dems were in power got the worst of it. Democrats attempting to politicize the pandemic and use it to score some partisan points at the expense of the most vulnerable demographics is quite disgusting, almost as disgusting as GOP during Bush era.
