Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Yeah, I noticed that corporate journos/social media astroturfers are spamming those "antivaxxer/conservative radio host learning his lesson after getting covid" stories, and most of them aren't really sourced and just basically give off very strong "and then everyone clapped" vibes. Also its people that can't shut up about how "empathetic" they are that simultaneously wish death upon people that disagree with them. At the end of the day a lot of those neoliberal pro-government folks are in on it simply because of their own mental health issues or some kind of personal inadequacies that they need to compensate for. At least that's the impression I've been getting from viewing stuff that they post. They certainly don't care about being safe or even if their stance is logical and rational, as long as they are on what they perceive as "the right side".
This will probably end very badly.

Like any other country, we have our small share of vaccine skeptics, and vaccine conspiracy theories. But every time I open an international newspaper and see the discussion that is going on around the world about whether it is necessary to make the vaccine obligatory or not, whether testing should be obligatory or not, I am amazed and say, how is it possible that here, in a little country with 10 million inhabitants this question has never been asked, because it was never necessary to discuss whether it should be obligatory because everyone felt it was their civic duty to do so?
Portuguese most pro vaccine
With Portugal number one in the world for vaccines, the prime-minister has praised the vaccination process in Portugal but stresses the importance of individual protection measures. The Portuguese are the Europeans who most consider that the benefits of the vaccine against Covid-19 outweigh the risks (87 percent) and who most defend the “civic duty” of vaccination (86 percent), according to a Eurobarometer survey.
A comment from an annoyed and angry denier,
"...I hope the vaccinated will survive, especially since there seems to be so many of them in beloved Portugal”
Another comment,
"It should come as no surprise that the otherwise pleasant group of people calling themselves Portuguese, agree that the experimental vaccine program has been a resounding success. Do not forget, Mr. António Egas Moniz´infamous lobotomy originated on these shores!”
At that,I cannot but laugh.

It is especially disingenuous when the people who laugh at the dead and dying are the same people who support every single public health policy because "We need to save every life possible." You can't value the sanctity of life while also taunting the person that loses theirs. It almost is as if it was never about preserving human life in the first place, but instead using it as a moral mask to hide one's own depravity.

Tha its pretty cold. Doesn't matter if people posted brain-dead dangerous and abusive crap, dancing on their graves is still lacking in class.
While it may not be the worst excess of our age (terrorism, Chinese "ethnic erasures" etc seem worse to me), I agree the trend of online abuse and polarisation has made society worse. The same platforms have allowed for interesting new cultures and PoVs to flourish too, I mean I like this place despite annoying people disagreeing with (how annoying) and correcting when I am wrong (even worse!).
In the US the followers of Clinton and Trump in particular have been complicit in this trend online and IRL. Crudity, hypocrisy, flagrant tail-wagging-doggism and contempt for the truth in favour of vicious point scoring. They are not Robinsons Crusoes though.
In my country places like twitter have become bullying platforms generally left-leaning voices ( recently a couple of non-controversial journos at the ABC got bullied out of their jobs because they dared question someone's stan), Facebook is abused not just for its intended purpose of harvesting data to control people, but also to spread absolute rubbish, and the commercial media likewise rings with the strident tones of Mr Murdoch's current whim.

The Victorian government has taken the view people are mostly stupid (I mean I'm stupid, so he' at least partly right) and need a mixture of firm clarity and a few jump scares to keep them safe.
Just saw on the news tonight Unions are concerned they are being infiltrated by anti-lockdown conspiracists intent on using union muscle to attack public order.
https://www.abc.net.au/7.30/sally-mc...re-of/13550406
Union leadership has been attacked by elements of its own followers for agreeing to mandatory vaccinations (after the building industry enjoyed extremely generous conditions for over a year: our current premier owes them a favour clearly).
The Union leader in question is John Setka, a colourful identity who has defied state and Federal leaders for decades (including one minor squabble where Union bosses and Master Builders allegedly invited rival bikie gangs to assist negotiations). There are numerous interesting stories about him best repeated off camera and away from witnesses. Whoever biffed John Setka in the head with a crate is going to have a bad time.

Unions are being "infiltrated" by *gasps* working class? The horror.
It does look like vaccine mandates, on par with "let them eat cake" attitude from progressive left/neoliberal governments does seem to push working class away from the left, while simultaneously mobilizing it towards more politically active stance.
Australians certainly have it the worst in terms of irrational harsh lockdowns and downright tyrannical rules and regulations, and I won't be surprised of some Maidan-style event happening there in near future, given how Australian government remains tonedeaf and strictly oriented to service pandemic profiteers, while ignoring its own population's concerns.
Setka is not exactly someone you would trifle with for sure.
Seems Dan Andrews was looking for an excuse, and the CFMEU gave it to him.
I'm a bit suss of the union-infiltration story - it's a convenient excuse that seems to be coming from Setka himself (as a control mechanism methinks - very Soviet (in a nod to Heathen)), and it's not like tradies need much of an excuse to pick a fight with the police... There probably was a few non-tradie anti-lockdown/vaxers in that protest. But that movement is full of high vis at the best of times so I think there is plenty of crossover.
Bit stink though. Tradies go to bed early and get up early... Plenty will be waking up this morning to discover they now have no pay through no fault of their own.

"The libs tricked us into not getting vaccinated by telling us to get vaccinated, knowing we'd do the opposite of whatever they said!"
At least they still haven’t caught onto our dastardly plan to get them to cut social services and education in their states by telling them not to cut social services and education.
So protesters flood major cities, as Australian Prime-minister is courageously hiding in some hole somewhere, while establishment politicians screech something about "assault on democracy", because you know, nothing is as undemocratic as people protesting government pandering to corporations and billionaires. This starts to look like 2013-14 events in Ukraine more and more.

U.S. Covid-19 Death Toll Surpasses 1918 Flu Fatalities

Comparing death tolls in the same country within century range is silly and irrational, since different population amounts/population density renders such comparisons irrelevant.
No. The death toll in the USA from Covid-19 now surpasses 1918 Flu fatalities. It's a fact.Despite the fact that nowadays we have antibiotics, dexamethasone, oxygen, ventilators, antibiotics for secondary infections, a modern medicine, modern hospitals and much more resources. The 1918 influenza affected less than half of the countries and the most vulnerable groups are healthy adults between the ages of 25 years and 40 years, while COVID-19 has affected nearly all countries and the most vulnerable group are adults above 65 years of age with comorbidities.
Until now,Covid-19 killed 4,55 M. US number of deaths by Covid: 675,000. Compare these numbers, taking into account the US population vs the world population and the total number of deaths.
The US is averaging 1,800 COVID-19 deaths. Today: more +1,849 COVID-19 cases climbing, wiping out months of progress
I quote,
The electric engineer and lover of Covid 19- alternative treatments doesn’t know what he is talking about. Simpson’s paradox strikes again. Refuting reports vaxxed have 5x case fatality rate than unvaxxed.“I’m going to focus my time today on the elephant in the room that nobody likes to talk about,” Kirsch began, “that the vaccines kill more people than they save. Even if the vaccines had 100 percent protection, it still means we killed two people to save one life,” Kirsch said.

"We're nice mainly because we're rich and comfortable."
The 1918 flu killed about 1 in every 150 Americans, compared with 1 in 500 who have died from Covid so far. How might the death rates be different in 1918-19 if the actual medical care was comparable? how many fewer deaths there would have been if they had today's technology? very few. And unlike today, there was no vaccine for the 1918 flu.Take note, the deaths due to Covid-19 are still increasing.
Covid deaths so far : around 4.7 million. The U.S. has borne a disproportionate 14% of those fatalities, despite making up only 5% of the world’s population. In the U.S. today, the vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 occur among the unvaccinated.

Should spreading anti-vaccine misinformation be criminalised?
BMJ 2021;372:n272 http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bmj.n272
Good news for America Biden Invests $2.1 Billion in Infection Control - WebMDAnti-vaccine disinformation, conspiracy theories, and fake news can often be considered counternarratives—expressions of resistance. In such cases, they can be born from and fed by distrust in authorities and institutions, expressions of resistance to hegemonic ideologies and rules. Hegemonic legislation that could be seen as criminalising the right to express legitimate worries or pose questions would only trigger more misinformation. Instead of criminalising communication, other technical solutions for tackling misinformation have proved successful, such as efforts by Facebook and Twitter to deal with false claims through fact checking and labelling misinformation. Moreover, trust in authorities, governments, and the healthcare system is key when it comes to ensuring high vaccine acceptance. The only way to sustainably reduce misinformation about vaccination—and to strengthen vaccine confidence and acceptance in the long run—is to increase trust in these institutions and authorities in different countries.

Quality and availability of medical care is also a variable, as well as the fact that lots of current government statistics cited come from dubious government sources, which are known to spread misinformation. Hence why comparing figures from 1918 and today makes absolutely 0 sense since US had different population numbers and density.
As for Biden "investment" doesn't mean much, as the taxpayer funds will be looted as bureaucrats in various government branches are going to pillage that, just like it goes for majority of government-run projects.
The figures in his assessment do appear to be implausible; however when you include al the people who have died since the pandemic started (most were unvaccinated and died the first year of the pandemic) into figures assessing the vaccines value a bit of deception appears to be at work.
You include figures for world wide vaccine dosage and the discussion was strictly about US dosages; again, a bit of a deception.
From my own personal experience I don't know any unvaccinated person who died. However I do know one person who died of a blood clot after vaccination and several others who experienced adverse effects form the vaccine.
