    Default Politics with females

Ever try speaking politics with majority of females? Its funny because ive always found it to go this way according to age group

well start at 13 because there is pretty much no one (boy or girl) who has even a political view repeated from what they have heard before then. (we members of twc are the exclusion here, most of the primary members here at at least very outspoken if not necessarily right.

13 ( have seen a bit on television and have little knowledge of whats going on despite fighting or problems)

14-15 (in most schools have at least been taught basic politics and are pushing left of centre)

20 (about a quarter of women have any interest in politics and most are liberal)

and it is even funner when you try engage in political conversation with most women under 20 , the ones over at least know a bit but under that its mostly spouting the media, and this is growing to encompass many young men. Now it used to be many young men were somewhat right of centre (if a bit based of off propaganda beliefs ) but now its leanign left withou any true political belief behind it other then " well I saw Israeli tanks blowing things up and i think that means they are bad right?" or he terrifyingly common "bush sucks" repeated many times. I agree with this but it is said coinstantly and by people that can not even answer the why. They refer to the arguements stated on tv like "war for oil?" or "Bush is killing all our soldiers in iraq"

Bush is a idiot but hardly the only reason behind Iraq.It is both ignorant and idiotic to try and focus the blame of a war with complex bcacking too it to a single man. Especially seeing how many americans supported the war to begin with but now have flipped to the other side saying they were always against it.

Let's just hope they were fascist communist kittens who were on their way to international fascist communist fair.

I'd argue that you were pushing a simplistic and dualistic view; in the end there is no political difference between males and females, really.

I would have to agree. I could find an equal number of males who demonstrated the same capabilities because they spend all of their free time watching sports. What you are seeing is the difference between the educated and uneducated (and I do not mean in the schools, but rather the difference between those who spend their free time learning about politics and those who do not).

I had a class about this subject (Gender and Politics)

Women are indeed slightly more left leaning than men.

At the moment, yes. I think it is dangerous to categorize them as left-leaning because of some sort of biological condition.

I'd be wary of making claims about women being less interested in and knowledgable about politics than men of the same age, even if it's a generalization, from only anecdotal experience. As it is, your last two paragraphs are so generalized that it makes me wonder if its a rant again young women and politics, or all young people and politics.

It's not about biological condition of gender, but the cultural condition of gender. Western culture is one in which is it natural for women to lean more left than their male counterparts, because many left social issues (like larger social welfare, more child care, more money for education) are ones that mothers have historically crusaded around in that traditional role. That, though, is strictly a generalization that women like Ann Coulter would stand starkly in contrast to.

If anything i would have said the women i know, most of whom are under 20, are more interested in politics than my male friends.

I have seen this, but I'm 14 and those who sit in the back of the Global Studies classroom (myself included) just talk politics, joke about politicians etc. By the way, 2 out of 5 are girls. While I do see a whole bunch of people my age severly lacking in political awarness and passion, I don't see it confined to women.

I see a lot of people talk a lot of BS about politics.

There are women and men in equal measure but its mostly confined to politicians.

From my experience women are much less interested in politics. I think this is more cultural though, certainly not biological.

The physical act of haiving a woman politician doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that, to get to that point, a woman would have to be just as coniving and back stabbing and brutal as a man. A woman as a major politiican reminds me too much of the ex wife character.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Ive always been taught that there are three things you never talk about with a girl: politics, past relationships, or mothers.

girl politics seem to center around who has what kind of purse, and which girl is a *****. Maybe its just the type of girls I tend to gravitate towards...

It's the type. I don't have a single female friend who talks about her purse on the same level of importance as the war in Iraq. However, all my female friends will argue about politics, though not to the extent I like to.

I was in no way suggesting that the political tendencies of females strictly involve their gender. Also in political groups it tends to be woman who join hat because of some weird though that they believe woman empowermant or something will change things while most men i know love to argue about it but rarely do much about it.

to sum it up, Women don't generally do a very good job of changing politics while men just don't feel its their job to or they ust don't think they can.

I never saw any girl take anything that could remotely be interpreted as a proactive approach in any of my history or political-type classes. Not in middle school, not in highschool, not in college yet as a freshman. Ive never seen a girl engage in political discussions as passionately and knowledgably as the males generally would. My experience in this matters leads me to believe that males are generally more historically and politically inclined.

My mom says it was the same thing back in russia, and many countries besides actually. generally politics is seen as a "man's pursuit", even in countries who have seen women rise to dominant political positions. Who am I to argue if society seems to say that politics is, generally, a man's game?

edit: I find politics of all kinds interesting, if theres a national issue I love to voice my opinions. None of the girls I know were (or are) like that, if I brought up a political issue they would stay silent ot try to change the subject.

(number of times the word 'generally' appears in the above post: 5)

I must say that I do generally find males to be more politically aware than females. Teenagers, that is. I don't really know why that is, but I certainly don't think there's any innate quality in females inclining them to be nonpolitical.

Rzza, I see what you are getting at with the national issue, though I have one problem that stops me from truly getting deep into National politics: being who I am, my true national politics do not change anything for me, being here. My true politics would only affect a strip of land 200 miles long which lies on the other side of the world. That has hindered my ability to really devote all of my thinking to American politics. Having this problem, I have found a way to walk the middle line, as I have a habit of doing. I feel much stronger for International politics than for U.S. ones. But still, Armenian politics take precedence over all.

I think my experience with females in the political field is mostly that they are fairly uninformed leftist loonies. My grandmother included...she is a socialist. My female friends are 99% leftist, with the exception of Katrina (whom you all know), and she is a center-right, I think. Only one of those friends who was a leftist could defend her position intelligently.

My general experience though is that they are all like "Yay peace, stop killing each other, Bush is bad because he is at war, lets all hold hands and sing, let people do whatever they want because I don't care and it doesn't affect me at all. do you like my dress?"

That isn't saying females can't be well informed, its just that (teenage) girls at least don't care to be.
