What version are you playing e.g from 1.0 to 1.5 (non-Gold Edition), Gold Edition (fully patched to 1.5 for the Roman campaign and 1.6 for the Barbarian campaign - BI)?

i have it in steam too
but cd /dvd original gold version not working
i used the same key from cd to activate it on steam

That's incorrect. I know you can buy it in Steam, so I suggest that you ask Steam support about this.
